Help with Fraps

I'd like to make some movies and since doing a little tweeking and ver 1.2 being released I'm getting pretty good frame rates. When I start fraps my frame rate drops from 60s and 50s down to 8 or 9. I tried setting the multisample line in the overrides file to 0 as suggested in another thread and still no dice. I would expect to have some framerate loss but this is nuts. I went to the website and looked at their FAQ, but that didn't offer any help. I figured they would have a forum but if they do it must be under the members area and I don't want to pay for the full product if I won't be able to make it work on my computer.

Thanks,
Scott

The multisample edit did nothing for me. I had the exact same problem as you.

Then I went from x4 FSAA to zero and had FRAPS running with no FPS loss. Later I went to x16 FSAA and still had no FPS loss with FRAPS. Weird but true.

Hope that works for you. :)

Siggi,

Tried setting FSAA to 0 and ran fraps. Frame rate still dropped from 50/60 to about 25. Planes looked like crap :) Reset FSAA to 8x and back to 8/9 fps with fraps.

Thanks,
Scott

Guys,

Make sure you haven't engaged any FSAA through the BHaH cfg file. Make sure you have your FSAA set to override any application setting in your Nvidia Contro Panel. Try setting various degrees of FSAA through your Nvidia Control Panel after resetting the FSAA to "0" by hand editing the overrides file to read "0" Multisamples. Also try running without AA Transparency whilst testing.

Try 2x, 4x, etc. through the control panel. Hopefully you'll find one level that works. I know of at least 3 others this has worked for.....four if I include myself.

Hey, Parky!
Could you explain a Neandertal man:

1. what is this FSAA all are talking about ?
2. is it only NVidea or all graphic cards ?
3. were is it to be set up ?

Thanks in advance! Olham

Fullscreen Antialiasing. Seems to be a glitch in CFS that dumps your FRAPS frames into the toilet depending on how you have the AA set up.

The setting is available both through your graphics driver control panel as well as through the game Config, but the trick is not to set AA through the "Change Display Options" in the config file. Basically you override the game's settings at the driver level. Not sure if guys with ATI experience the same phenomenon or if the fix that's worked for me and a couple of others would apply to them.

You only need to worry if when you try to capture using fraps your frames plummet from a nice high rate to something ridiculously low....typically somewhere in the vicinity of 10 fps from the usual 150 ;)

Judging from your clips, you have no worries, mate.

Cheers,

Parky

Yes, think you're right - my system is rather in it's midlife, but no crisis yet (Lol!) It's an ATI RADEON X1900. Frames are between 28 and 35 mostly; when FRAPS is on, they may alter slightly, but seem to recover somehow.
Thank you, Parky!

I was getting crap fps with fraps too..After reading Siggi's advice, I actually upped my Antriosopic from x8 to x16..and now get 25fps on movie mode

Thanks for all the input guys. I guess my 'puter just doesn't have the a## to run fraps. Bumped AA and Antriosopic down to 2 and off respectively, made sure that multisample is set to 0 in every config. file I can find and still go from 50/60 fps down to 12 with fraps running. Also set AA and AS to intermidiate settings and still get the same.

Thanks,
Scott

One thing Scott, maybe change the save folder for FRAPS to a different drive (a fast one if you have). Also stop your AntiVirus from scanning that folder.

No AV running Pol, but I was thinking. I just remembered that I had a memory module go bad about a week ago and I haven't got around to ordering a new one, so currently I'm running with only one Gig of memory, I'll bet that's what the problem is.

Thanks,
Scott
