Help with sound error!

Its me again, sorry! I'm getting the following error on entry into P3D v4.5 when sellecting the IndiaFoxTEcho A-4.
panel sound error.jpg
Once I continue the A-4 operates as advertised with one exception, there are no sounds in the VC. Engine sounds are barely audible even with the canopy open. In outside view all is well. I've researched the issue with no real success in finding a solution. I believe the problem lies in a panel config gauge command line but it is beyond my skill to correct it if it is indeed the culprit.

As always, any help with this situation is appreciated.

Hey Cees, it seems the sim is looking for it in the main P3D aircraft folder and there is no A-4 folder there. However, the gauge command in the A-4 panel.cfg file appears to tell it to look there. (Gauge 90). BTW, all my addons are on a separate drive away from the main folder. The sound.ini file is in the addon A-4 panel\sound folder along with a 64 bit sound dll file. So, I’m at a loss as to how to get the sim to look for it where it actually is or move it to where the sim wants it. Not sure which would apply if either.

Yes, I thought so. I have the A-4 files in the main P3D folder and it works flawlessly.

Cees

Glad for you. Anyone out there experience my situation? After more tinkering I believe its possibly a command problem in the panel cfg but since I'm not versed in syntax I haven't been able to fix it. I have managed to change the error code once and totally eliminate the error once but neither of my attempts resulted in fixing the problem of no cockpit sounds. Thanks for looking.

Does the 'Sound.ini' file actually exist in the 'I:\Lockheed Martin\P3D v4_5\SimObjects\Airplanes\A-4E\panel\Sound' location? If not that is your problem as the aircraft's panel is looking for the sound files in one location but it's finding a poor substitute at another location which I am guessing is where you actually installed the aircraft.

Note the location addresses and the file names in your screenshot above. They are different locations and different file names.

As a test you could copy/paste the aircraft folder from your remote location into the usual 'SimObjects\Airplanes' folder to see if that fixes the problem.

Hi Larry, thanks for the reply. Yes, I have noticed the location differences and have, I believe, located the command line that points to the main P3D folder. I was hoping someone would be able to offer the proper command to point to the folder where the config file actually is, rather than moving the entire aircraft folder, which defeats the purpose of keeping the main P3D folder "clean".

So far, my other addon aircraft (I only have a few so far) have worked without error. I may just have to live with the error because everything else seems to work just fine, including the exterior sounds.

Thanks for looking at this.

Could you display the corresponding panel line ?
Hello gaab. Here is the line from the panel config file (without the quotes).

"gauge90=Sound/CustomSound_x64!Sound,0,0,0,0,.\SimObjects\Airplanes\A-4E\Panel\Sound\Sound.ini"

Also note that the sounds are called in the sound.ini file using the same address as above (example below)

"Sound00=./SimObjects/Airplanes/A-4E/Panel/Sound/Gun.wav,100"

Thanks for taking a look,

Steve

Hi Duckie,

Your Panel/Sound-folder should look like this. Can you confirm (ignore the "Alarm Fire Two Tone"-text)? Path at the top of the screenprint. And do you have TacPack installed?

Did you install the A-4 into your D-drive? From your screenshot where it points to the default location of the file it looks like you may have accidentally installed the FSX-version there. Look at the filename "A4EFGHKFSX_version103". The zipfile I have downloaded from the IFT-site has the filename "A4EFGHKP3Dv44_v103 FREEWARE".

First change the line in the panel.cfg so it includes the full path to the sound.ini
here's mine as an example
gauge90=Sound/CustomSound_x64!Sound,0,0,0,0,E:\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons\IndiaFoxtEcho\SimObjects\Airplanes\A-4E\panel\Sound\Sound.ini

Then do the same in the sound.ini for all of the sounds
again here's one of mine as an example
Sound00=E:\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons\IndiaFoxtEcho\SimObjects\Airplanes\A-4E\panel\Sound/Gun.wav,100

Mine is in P3Dv5 but it should work the same for v4.

1. Yes, my panel/sound folder looks like that
2. My path is D:\add-ons P3D v4\Addon_Aircraft\A4_IndiaFoxtEcho_v103_P3D\SimObjects\Airplanes\A-4E\Panel\Sound
3. I have not installed TacPack for P3D but some how the sim has found my FSX installation because this A-4 loads up TacPasck weapons using the IFE stores app.

My first install was of the V103 for FSX/P3D. I have since uninstalled that version an currently have the V103 P3D version installed. All addons are installed on a separate drive away from the main P3D V4.5 drive installation.

Hi, DB. I have followed these instructions very carefully, checked and double checked and, unfortunately there is no change. Still no interior sounds, however the error placard has changed slightly.

I think I've spotted the problem based on the error message and you reply to Lawman.
It looks like you've left out \Addon_Aircraft\ from your edits.

Try using these examples
gauge90=Sound/CustomSound_x64!Sound,0,0,0,0,D:\add-ons P3D v4\Addon_Aircraft\A4_IndiaFoxtEcho_v103_P3D\SimObjects\Airplanes\A-4E\Panel\Sound\Sound.ini

Sound00=D:\add-ons P3D v4\Addon_Aircraft\A4_IndiaFoxtEcho_v103_P3D\SimObjects\Airplanes\A-4E\Panel\Sound/Gun.wav,100

Well, DB, I'm embarrassed to say you are correct re. leaving out "Addon_Aircraft." And, there's good news and bad news. The good news is there is no longer any "config warnings" on boot up. The sim boots right in to the A-4. However, the bad news is there are now warning flags whenever any of the specific panel sounds are called. A warning pops up on each of the sounds (the ones I tested) and none of the specific sounds play.

FOUND IT AND IT IS ME! Is my face red? It should be! It was the sound.ini lines. I added "\sound.ini" to the end of the address line just before the sound name. Corrected that mistake and its all working now.

THANK YOU to Dangerous Beans for taking the time to guide me thru this trouble shooting process and then helping me find my errors. Thanks also to Cees Donker, Tako_Kichi, gaab, and Lawman for taking the time to comment and helping to get the ball rolling on the way to a solution.

I concur with Cees that he didn't do diddly squat to help you solve your issue:biggrin-new:. J/K, Cees;)! I wasn't much help either, but I'm also glad Duckie can now enjoy the Skyhawk👍.

😂🤣😆😂

Seriously, though, you may not have supplied the ultimate solution but what you did was to keep the thread alive until it attracted the attention of someone who could. So, for that I say thanks, again.
