SOH-CM-2023
Just got FS 9 up and running on my new Win 7 64 bit machine (and wow does it kick FS 9's backside. Over 60 AI planes on the ground at George Grimshaw's Logan, running the Eaglesoft Citation II, All sliders to the right and I'm getting 60 plus fps) but all of a sudden since yesterday, FS locks up. Program launches, I select the default flight and it hangs upon trying to load weather. Mo matter if it's downloaded weather or a theme. It just refuses to run. I just spent a week getting this up and running the way I want. I don't want to have to re install.

Also I did the "Delete the cfg" trick and it didn't help...

Any ideas?

Instead of trying to load a flight, try the Learning Center or other menu option.

Also try clearing weather before setting up a flight.

My experience is that this is usually video or sound related. Since wx is not loading, probably video related.

Did you do any installs yesterday?

I had a similar problem the previous time my sims went down, flight loading progress bar would run until it hit loading weather, then 'CRASH'. I ended up reinstalling, sorry to be of no help what-so-ever, lol.

Have you recently installed new clouds, I did suspect a particular set of clouds (one included option anyway), but have no solid proof of that. Wondered if it was a corrupt bmp, but everything went FUBAR soon after, so couldn't investigate further, re-install was my only option.

When I first installed FS9 under Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit, I had some issues with the sim and trying to use the Learning Center, Flight Planner and such. Dangerous Dave gave me some hints to check out.....giving the sim full Administrator rights and such. Take a look up in the Tips and Tweaks subforum for the thread there I started on this issue.

One thing I did learn during the process......for some reason, even with all my sim installs having full rights, I still can not use flight planner and the learning center in any of them except the one install that is actually listed in the system registry. The 3 installs that I copied over from my archive disc (Modern Military, General Aviation and Vintage Military installs) are not listed in the system registry, and every time I try to use flight planner or flight time logging and that stuff, the sim crashes.

Brian,

Look in your display settings and find the Render to Texture setting. If it's checked, turn it off, if it's not checked, turn it on. I had that same problem before with crashing loading weather (at 71%) at this is what the problem was. I just can't remember if it was off or on by default, but I do remember changing it fixed the crashes.

Astoroth, you are the MAN!! I had render to texture off. I turned it on and FS loads again... SWEET!!!! Now if I could only get my reality XP gauges and Flight 1 PC-12 and Cessna 441 to work....

about RXP gauges - they should all still work EXCEPT the GPS gauges. So Flightline avionics should still work fine in Win7x64.
