Hey All,

16 years ago today Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. perished in an airplane crash.

What a tragedy! A couple songs in his memory.


This song probably says the most about John. It is about his Grandmother's 1910 Gibson f-hole guitar which helped a boy overcome his shyness and become John Denver. He can tell the story.


He was cremated with that guitar.

What a singer! What a guitar player!

If you liked John maybe post a song in memory.

What a timely thread....

I just took a break from playing guitar, and decided to check Sim-Outhouse, and saw this thread. I've decided after 30 odd years of not playing guitar to pick up a guitar and do something positive with it. I've been struggling to learn Boy From The Country (Michael Murphey). I should have picked an easier song to learn as my first song, but I'm sure this old dog can learn new tricks after all these years. Yeah, I miss John and his music. It took me a long long long time to warm up to his newer songs from the 80's and beyond. I think as I age, I can better appreciate those songs, as I have a better understanding of life's trials and tribulations. I never forgave him for abandoning those granny glasses though (just joking).

John, like many other gifted people before him, left us (the world) a legacy (a gift) of music and song. It up to us to keep the music and song alive for the next generations to come. I might not be able to do much by myself, but I will do what little I can to keep his music, song, and message of hope alive for future generations.

Yeah - John was one oft the best ! I play and sing his Songs very offen. My favorites are 'Annie's song' and the legendary Duett with Plácido Domingo, 'Perhaps love' ... And for warming up my fingers and my guitar 'Country roads'
 
Gosh, I went to his concert in Mobile, Al., in 1980.
My, my, the years are flying by!
He was truly one of a kind, beautiful songs and ballads. :applause:
 
John truly was a great "Bard" in the ancient and venerable meaning of the title. He was one of those who's songs actually told a complete story set to beautiful music. RIP John.
