Hey, Milton

It's been at least 10 years since I've been to the Pima Air and Space Museum. Looks like they've got some new planes on display. What a great place to visit. The latest Google Earth shot shows a B-36 Peacemaker on display too. If you go back in time with the time slider, you can watch the B-36 being restored from virtually nothing to the complete plane.

I'll have to plan a new trip so I can see "Milton's" planes all in a row.

Yep, it's there and it's impressive.

Thanks for the photo Warhorse.

A bit off topic, but B-36s used to fly over our house when I was a kid. They really shook the windows!

so i have to ask what was next in line?:mixedsmi:
Hate to answer your question 'cause I'm really not sure...:salute:

Look closely to the right of the Tigercat and you'll see what I mean. There are several a/c that are painted funny, and they are not even on the visitor's guide so I can't interpret what they are for. Here's are some shots from the wife's camera to show what I mean...

As for more of the Shupe (and Team) collection, they were not in any orderly fashion

PS - that's Mrs. WarHorse sitting under the AT-11

My favorite was the B-18B "Bolo" - the first I've ever seen.

A Sabre Jet (center) and a civilianized B-23 Dragon (right side) in the first photo.

Perhaps a US Navy C-117/Super DC-3 (without engines) on the right side of the second photo.

Yes, but someone went through a lot of effort to repaint these birds. Here's a close up of several of the DC-3's. I've seen a lot of buildings, bridges, rocks and rail cars that were "tagged", but not aircraft.

The jet is a Lockheed JetStar, called the C-140 by the USAF.

The Smithsonian Air & Space magazine did a feature recently on an "art project" where someone commisioned grafitti artists paint some derelict aircraft.

edit: Found the article in the May 2012 issue of Air & Space, "Sightings" section. It's called the 'Round Trip: Art From The Boneyard Project'. In the writeup they call the JetStar a VC-140 and refer to it as a "former CIA spyplane". The exhibit also includes a C-45 as well as a handful of Super DC-3s. Apparently inside a nearby hanger are some smaller items like spinners and dummy bombs also given the same treatment.

Now, CF-BKN is no ordinary Beech 18. It is c/n 177, the 10th of 29 pre-war Beech 18's built and is technically a model S18D (S= ski/wheel/float factory equiped; D= Jacobs 330HP L-6MB powered - 1 of six so built)

Prairie Airways of Moose Jaw SK (now home of the Snowbirds) was the world's first airline operator of the Model 18. For a good read about BKN and sister-ship BKO (now in the Beechcraft Heritage Museum) go here -->>
