HMS Bounty

stoney

SOH-CM-2023
I can't seem to get the FSX Bounty to move, (zero ground speed). I have my sails set correctly to the wind direction. Wind velocity 16 - 24 knts, not grounded. Ultra Hard aircraft. I feel it must be something simple that I'm missing.

The FS9 version sails fine in FS2004. Thanks if you can help.

Have you "weighed" anchor?
EDIT: That was a silly question by me; sails will not deploy otherwise. :)

Are you certain wind is coming from behind the sails?
Press shift+3 for a diagnostic window. Paste screenshot here.

Are you in "Slew" mode by chance? I get caught on that one at times. LOL

Are you running P3Dv4? Special install instructions for that sim.

Thanks Milton, running FSX, sp1 & 2, not P3Dv4. Wind coming off port quarter at 24 kts gusting to 28. Anchors aweigh. All plain sail set, full and bye. Entering Portsmouth mid channel. No slew. Still stationary!

Are you running the FSX Native version, or the port over.

The port over requires FSUIPC; the native version does not.

EDIT: Also, use shift+3 to display the blue data screen; provide screen capture please.

Yes, this is the FSX native version. I did try the port over version just now and it sails just fine, with no problems. I do have, what I believe, is the latest FSUIPC. Really odd.

I am also running FSX with SP1 and 2. This is the FSX native Bounty. Running with the 16 knot wind and if I could throw up a spinnaker, I would. She's moving with ease.

Stoney, the blue diagnostic screen tells the story. The "AS-Wind speed = zero. For whatever reason the Bounty is not seeing the wind. If you display the wind with shift+Z, you should see the same number in the AS-Wind entry.

It may be that Accel is required for that native FSX version. I'll check with Rob Barendregt.

If you click on "Addons" in the Menu bar, does it show FSUIPC there?

Yep, I do have the FSUIPC there in the Addons bar. I thought the wind speed was as shown in the Sail Control panel. So, I don't have a clue. As I said the port over works just fine, go figure.

Interestingly on the FSX port over version the AS-Wind is also 0.0, however the ships responds to the wind and helm as one would expect.

Okay, thought so now that you say the FSX port over version works.

That is interesting. At least you can sail. :)

I have asked Rob to "weigh in" on the issue when he has time.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi "Stoney" (and Milton),

I'm pretty sure the reason causing this problem, is that you don't have the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable" installed on your PC; which is required for this V2 Native FSX version.

Unfortunaly, the Installation.txt file in the Native FSX zipfile does mention that FSUIPC is no longer required, but doesn't mention this Redistributable library requirement.
If you read the panel.cfg (open with e.g. Notepad), this requirement is explained, and where-to-download this standard Microsoft Redistributable.

To check if this Redistributable is installed or not, check "Installed Programs" in the Windows XP/7/8/10 Configuration screen.

Does this solve the problem ???

Rob

PS:
FYI: The value of "AS-WIND" in the blue debug values window indicates the 10-sec. average of ambient wind, only used (and valid)) if the AutoSkipper is ON.
Averaged, to prevent a constant (every second) update of the sails configuration in gusty wind conditions.

PS2:
Given the Visual C++ "library" requirement, the Bounty should sail fine with FSX SP1/SP2 (no FSX-Acceleration is required).

Ah, thank you Rob. You are correct about that oversight. :banghead: I see that I added it to the download page back then so apparently it was questioned and changed once before. :wiggle:

Funny, but I can't get the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable" installed. Error log says:

Are you installing as Administrator?

Which Windows version are you using ??? (XP-SP3, 7/8/10) ??

Not sure why installation of the Redistributable would fail , or what the errors mean.

Rob

Sorry, I didn't know about the Windows8.1 problem regarding installing this Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (I never used Windows8)

But if you keep having problems with installing that, and still want to use the native FSX version (V2) instead of the portover version (which I recommend):

In the panel folder, there is a file panelorig.cfg which is setup to use the original gauges for speed control (which does require FSUIPC, and doesn't use the Redistributable).
To use this:
Just rename the panel.cfg to something else, and then rename panelorig.cfg to panel.cfg.

I tested that again, and works fine.

Rob

PS:
From the picture in your post#5, I suspect you are using an "old-style" 4:3 monitor, instead of a (these days: more common) widescreen (16:9) monitor; which make the compass in the sail managment gauge more like an oval instead of round. Right ?

If so:
If you change in the Window00 section of the panel.cfg

[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Tahoma,Calibri,Geneva,sans-serif]window_size= 0.3,0.51
window_pos= 0.7,0.5

to

[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Tahoma,Calibri,Geneva,sans-serif]window_size= 0.4,0.51
window_pos= 0.6,0.5

or (smaller window)

[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Tahoma,Calibri,Geneva,sans-serif]window_size= 0.3,0.38
window_pos= 0.7,0.6

it will look much better....

Thank you Rob and Milton, that change worked just wonderful! Full FSX Bounty working great now. The view changes worked better than I thought too, much better!:jump:

Couldn't get the KB 2999226 patch to install. so go figure. I don't like 8.1 much either but dread W.10. I would really like to go back to XP which never gave me a lick of trouble.

Anyway, thank you guys for taking the time and effort to help an old guy out, I REALLY appreciate it.
