The 30" monitor arrived today. OFF at 2560x1600 is another experience entirely. And no difference to the FPS at all, which is nice. I was half expecting the graphics card to go "On your bally bike matey!" :icon_lol:

It needs a serious colour calibration though. The game looked perfect but the web looks dire.

wow!..that was quick!...and you still live and breath?.... (check your Sushi tonight mate!..might taste a little weird!) :wiggle:

Hello

What FPS are you getting?
And can you remind me of your system specs?

Sounds great, Siggi, congratutlations. :)

Perhaps I'll need to look more attentively into my settings. Because there is FPS difference (and somewhat bigger triangles when turning TIR POV fast) between 1920x1200 and 1440x900 res. Not drammatic but I see there still is, and the game runs a little smoother @1440x900 on my E6800 @4.4GHz / 8800GT / 24''. But I'll need to run some objectives comparisons.

Anyway, thanks for sharing,
Dirk.

Specs:

E8400 @ 4ghz
8800GTX
2gb 1066 RAM @ 850-ish
Asus Maximus Formula II mobo
XFi sound card

Game at:

54451
2560x1600x32
x16FSAA
x16AF
V-Sync off

On field in QC:

Looking forward in cockpit, fully zoomed-out: 40fps
Looking left (five Camels in view): 22fps
Looking directly up: 83fps

At 2500ft:

Forward: 52fps (x6 hun coming at me)
Left: 70fps
Up: 180fps

Dogfighting at zero altitude, lowest fps seen: 26fps

I think when I originally set 2560x1600 in config the game actually played at 1920x1200, I was getting much higher fps. After exiting the game and going back in I'm now getting those listed above. I'm guessing an exit from the game is needed after changing resolution, to 'set' it.

I can't say I notice any difference in image-quality between the two resolutions. Certainly notice the difference in size though, I actually felt a bit of motion-sickness after a while of first playing, possibly because my peripheral-vision can no longer see properly off the screen. I'm sure I'll get used to it though.

Amazing!!

My new PC is now fully loaded up and running:

E8400 at stock 3Ghz
280
2Gig Ram 1066

Are you running the E8400 o/c with standard cooler?

Yeah cool monitor mate.

I have a Zalman Flower heatsink & fan, the stock items would be no good under a heavy load at 4ghz. Highest temps I've seen on the cores at 100% load is 53c and 47c respectively.

Sounds like one of the newer wide-gamut models, they have real brash colors with all but serious photo apps.

I believe it is, I think it does around 117% of the Adobe RGB spectrum (or words to that effect).

Siggi..

Just to comment, your cpu load temps at 4 GHz are the same as I was getting at 3.9 GHz with my Zalman 9700 cooler. Even then I just didn't feel comfortable running that high where a modest OC at 3.6 GHz does. Besides, I really didn't see than much of a bump in 3Dmark06 score between 3.6 and 3.9 to warrant the risk.

If one considers the voltage and temp it's running at, 4ghz really isn't pushing it that much. I needed way more volts and was getting much higher temps pushing my Q6600 from 2.4ghz to 3ghz.

It ran 100% stable for 8 hours with Prime95 at 4ghz. Maybe it'll suffer a shorter lifespan, but by the time it would have died it would have been replaced/upgraded anyway.

Those temps are fine. Once you start getting up into the mid 60's you may have cause for concern. I own the Maximus Formula SE. Just out of curiosity, what kind of temps you getting on your Northbridge??

Nice monitor choice.......that will put you about as close to in the game as you can get.

Just for input, I have a E8600 and I have never yet found a reason that I had to overclock, although I have read a lot of people who have really taken these to some insane numbers, and still kept them quite cool. Don't know if its true, but I've heard the heavier loads will only decrease your cpu life expectancy by a year or two on average, and since they are supposed to last ten......seems like no real loss, as i probably average a new build every 3-4 years.......but then again that new Empire Total War is coming, and it looks like a cpu demanding monster, so I might have to play around with it. We'll see.

What kind of monitor is it? the 30" that is? I'm using a 28" hanns g those things are dirt cheap at costco.great monitor too.

From vague memory somewhere around 45c or 55c.
