Horrible.. Great landing until it got the best of him. Looks like a tail wind lifted the tail up as he passed by the camera. Too bad he couldnt have gave it full throttle and lifted back off again for another go around..
 
i dunno, but on a guess, i would think that the plane got a little squirrely when the rudder goes soft on it's way to the ground. he panicked and hit the brakes too hard.
 
I did that exact same thing the other day while coming in for a landing in the stock Cessna 172...came in too hot, used too much brake, and over on her nose and back she went. Horrible end to a nice 30 minute flight.

Yep.. I got the default Cub in FS9 to flip ALL the way over and end up on it's wheels.. well.. where the wheels used to be

I think that was a Cessna 180 which is notorious for ground looping if you don't handle the transition from full rudder authority to tire authority just right.

I think I would have preferred the ground loop to going head over heels though....

that's what i was thinking too. as the tail drops you can hear the tires skreeching as the plane wants to swish.

It's easy for us to say after the fact, but as soon as the nose starts to drop forward its too late....

That's when you figure out you hit the brakes too hard.

Well actually, I know we have a fair sprinkling of real hands-on Biggles types, and I was just wondering if any of them still drove tail-draggers ?
 
I don't have a tail wheel cert, but I fly with a buddy who had a tail dragger. Really gotta dance on those rudders when you set down...especially if you come in too fast.

In this case Cheezy, I'm arm chair pilot too...:woot:but I can still imagine what that guy was thinking as soon as the nose started to go over....

Yup, that's pretty much what I was thinking....

As an aside, Saturday I went out to the Airport to fly my favorite Cessna 182, only to find it in pieces in the hanger. Apparently the engine cut out on approach and the pilot put it down in a nearby field. Prop strike and damage to the wings and fuselage. No one on board the least bit shaken up.

Pilot's story was the engine just quit. However he admits he didn't use carb heat. Since the engine cranked right up in the hanger....:faint:

Humm drop in MP and just hearing the engine go rough would make me put on carb heat immediately!


As far as the nose over? Somebody didn't have their heels on the floor and likes the brakes!
