Having a hat-full of trouble converting the new Horton VII [Horten-H-VII AND -1.zip]....

It ports fine but crashes CFS2 with a
Msvcrt.dll error no matter what I do.

Suggestions ?

SC

Done and done, Editor - however, my latest version of MSVCRT.DLL is light years different from the 2001 version that CFS2 looks for...

I hesitate to replace the newest version in my WinXP installation with an antique dll from Win 98- unless I can be POSITIVE that nothing else will be affected.

Ideas ?

On the surface it's a lot of work for one plane bro, but what are you gonna do with us Americans?

dll files gave me hell in 98 though I'd go back in a heartbeat for 'net work, and may still if I can find the right computer. Maybe try and get clear, read-only uncorrectable versions of both dlls and give it a try. My dedicated CFS and FS computer will run nothing higher than 98, it has a 128 meg video card that's pretty solid, I has a 21 inch HP CRT monitor, I'm ready to raise hell. Keep us posted SC.

Hi SC,
No need to matey!

If you have not converted the texs to DXT3 or 565, then I think the 32 bit texs may be causing the crash.
Convert using MDLC 1.90. You may notice that the port wheel does not spin, so use manual MDLC or one of the older MDLCs ie MDLC75/85/117 or 1.42, this will cure the wheel.
Convert the 32 bit texs to DXT3 or 565, and delete the glass bmp tex (not needed). Convert the airfile with Airwrench, which also does the cfg file. Put in a default DP and remove the gun info lines (as it was unarmed). Find another panel, and there ya go!

I think Pepe may possibly be going to upload a conversion?

Cheers Shessi

Did That

Shessi;

I don't want to put any more load on Pepe or ANY of our Senior Conversion Experts by just sitting back and waiting for the job to be done.... Thus, I have been working quietly, trying to get the process down myself.

I
automatically convert BMPs to DXT3; run the MDL and air files thru MDLC , AirWrench AND ACM 2.5, then manually edit the DP and panel files before passing them thru DPEdit and CFGEdit BEFORE the plane ever hits my aircraft folder.... I have a 96% success rate this way.

That's my only sticking point - some planes refuse to convert without crash.

Maybe I'm missing a step ? I dunno. But I'm not giving up just yet.

Removing the selected BMP files did not make things better, BTW - still getting a CTD.

More Research Needed !

Hmmm, strange??

Totally understand, when you start something, you want to see it through.

Well, there's nothing obvious there. Apart from trying another known 'good' airfile, just to see, the only other thing is to try flying out of a different airfield?

Shessi

FYI I'm using WinXP HE v2002 with SP3.

Dadgummit !

Well, I just dropped a decent working [albeit mismatched] Beaufighter AIR and CFG file, still CTD. And I don't even GET to the airfield, Shess - I start crashing right at the selection window !

I have a feeling there's something VERY wrong with this MDL, chaps.....

Sorry, I'm flying it without problems...

Onward and Upward

...Sorry, I'm flying it without problems...

After much research, testing, file dissection, and parts swapping, I have decided to shelve this project.

Perhaps I'm not meant to fly a single wing ?

As a good friend said, "Plenty More Fishies in the Sea !"

Thanks for the assistance, all

Hello SC

With the many parts of code and the great potential for glitches & bugs to crop up it often surprises me that there are not more issues. Bit like that project of mine that I spent a heap of time on only for a little bug to finally cause me to move on. If you got a rotten corn-cob then grab another one out of that field growing around you !!!!!! :wavey:

SG, you KNOW I'm one stubborn ***.... I do NOT give in easily, especially when all the ducks line up, but the plane falls down.

I tossed that particular corn cob into the Hog Pen and found one that works better - A.F.Scrub's Spit XXII - but [just to set the blaze a little hotter] NONE of my Flying Wing aircraft [US or German] will work in this particular installation !

Some weekends it just doesn't pay to turn the computer on..... :isadizzy:

Did you change the DP?

Last Speculation

I threw in ANYTHING that was working in another aircraft installation - Sound / Panel / DP / AIR..... And the Wing wouldn't cooperate.

I'm not worried. Plenty of winter coming to work on it.
