A house exploded around 1 pm wednesday the 24th in Rancho Cordova ( suburb of Sacramento),killing one 71 yo man and critically injuring his daughter and grand daughter...several others were injured as well..news reports said that fire fighters at a local firehouse heard and "felt" the explosion..went outside..saw the smoke (some said fireball) and said debrie was falling at the firehouse.the pics (film) from the scene..there is nothing there anymore..just part of one wall....Pacfic gas and electric was called yesterday according to nighbors but PG&E claim they were not contacted until this morning and no one showed up until mid morning(appairently did nothing?)...but as stated, the locals told the news guys that one man had spoken to the now dead guy yesterday and he told him that the man(dead guy) called yesterday several times and they didnt respond......not good...means our prices will go up....

That is sad. Where I live, if you call the gas company with a report that you smell gas, a fire engine or two will be in front of your house in a few minutes and you will be out standing by the curb. I know this from experience and was totally caught off guard. I thought I would see a gas company truck pull up.
A house near where I live blew up from a natural gas leak last fall. It happened just as I was leaving for work. I heard the explosion from about 5 miles away. I thought there was a car accident nearby and drove around our neighborhood looking for it before continuing on to Chicago. An elderly couple died in the blast having bought the house a month or two before. You can read about it here.

Everytime I hear of a house spontaneously blowing up I think; "Meth lab".

I suppose there are other reasons. . .
