How are the Warbirdsim FSX ponies coming along?

With the release of the Aerosoft Catalina, I'm already in trouble with wife, so if I'm gonna be in the doghouse....I might as well do it right !

Was wondering that myself. Not to long ago somebody had that same question but never saw an official response on it. Haven't seen anything new on their site about it either, just the same pics they have had up for a while.

Ya I made a thread asking the same thing a while back... never got a response. I was very excited about these and I planned to get them because I knew the A2A ponies wouldn't be out for awhile. Yet, at the rate Warbirdsim is going... A2A may come out before Warbirdsim does. Oh man.

Our Ponies

Hi,

Sorry for being out of the loop for a while.
Was leaving it and leaving it as we seemed to be ready, but have had teething problems.

This time around we are going with a secure product. By that I mean we have added an activation code that will need an activation request sent out by you. The most secure flight sim software we have seen is by Ariane and we have asked them to help us with the security. You may remember they kindly gave us the website template, with which we are very happy.

The aircraft themselves have been ready for a while, but we are adamant that this time we don't lose out to the pirates, so the security has to be right.
It may put some purchasers off buying, but we would rather have that than lose another 16,000 downloads that we have now lost on the FS9 product.

Thanks for your ongoing patience and we really hope to have some good news for you soon.

Can you elaborate a little more on how this activation will work? I'm not familiar with the procedures with Ariane although I've read a lot about it. I hate to sound negative, and the reason I'm asking is because I had a VERY frustrating time trying to get one of my payware aircraft reactivated after building a new system (the product and publisher shall remain nameless). No joke, it took me the better part of 1 week of repeated emails and forum posts to get any assistance at all. Apparently the activation code was somehow tied to my computer and I couldn't use the original key to reactivate once installed on the new system.

I'll continue to enjoy Princess and Ina on fs9 but expect I will pass on the fsx birds if it's too much of a hassle, or I will at least wait to purchase till I see what kind of luck other people are having.

I won't go into detail but, activation is very straight forward and provided you follow the installation pdf and on screen instructions you will find it easy!

People will have issues if they don't read the instructions, that's all.

To answer your second query, the key will not work on different PC's, that's the whole point. It will work on the PC the activation request was sent from.
We don't want people passing it around and ultimately pirating!

Thanks for the response. I'd like to have them in FSX also and you guys do seem to give better customer service than the publisher of the plane I referred to above :ernae: so I may have to give in when they're released.

Darrell

Darrell, I really appreciate your honest input. There have been times with other products in the past where security measures have gotten in the way of the buyer enjoying the product because of frustrations centered around the activation process. This was definitely something that we did not want to get ourselves into, so quite honestly months have been invested in ensuring that the security process, while tight, is as user-friendly and dependable as possible - which has meant continued testing on many different platforms. We will always be available to answer any questions and provide any level of assistance as well.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

I'll be honest, you've probably lost a sale here. I've heard far, far, too many complaints about Ariane's activation system.

That said, most of the complaints seem to be with the fact that problems with the system aren't resolved - I'll have to wait and see on that. Being someone who was actively waiting for these to be released, though, overzealous anti-copyright infringement measures are more likely to make me put my card away than get it out. They don't hurt the people who want to copy it - who wouldn't have bought it anyway in the collossal majority of cases. They do hurt me when I can't use the product I've paid a license fee for.

Ian,

I wish we could let it go out security free. We made a big mistake by doing that last time around and as I have said elswhere within 20 sales, it was on a torrent site. We thought we could trust the community and unfortunately we can't. We cannot afford to and won't let that happen again.

You will find the security easy.
And we are here to help with any hiccups!

I don't know if the system you guys plan on using is automated (ie: we install the aircraft and send the activation request and get a "key" generated automatically that will be emailed to us) or if it's manual (ie: we install, send the request, and then someone from Warbirdsim has to manually email the "key" back to us), but my .02 worth would be automated would definitely be better if possible.

The experience I referred to above I"m assuming was manual judging from the correspondence I had with "someone in the know" at the publisher who so graciously helped me even though they were in no position to really do so. The real frustrating part though was I emailed and pm'd the person responsible, once even when they were signed on to the forum at the same time I was on and it still took several days to get a response back from THAT person, only after I'd publically raised a "stink" in their forums.

Having developed and released an fsx airplane I definitely understand your frustration over the piracy issues, and if this system works for everyone, it'll definitely be a step in the right direction. Again, not trying to be negative, just wanted to put a potential customer's input out there for you guys to consider.

Darrell

As I said, I'll wait and see.

I understand entirely about your position regarding needing to protect it . It's just my personal experience and those of others I know of that make me very wary of this particular system and others like it. I have no problem at all with security per se, just overzealous security that leaves me with software I can't use.

I wish you well with it and am not saying I definitely won't get the pack, I'm just saying that I'm stepping out from fighting for a spot at the front of the queue right now.

To be brutally honest here, not matter what protection you put on it, it will end up on a torrent site. :frown:

Will there be a refund policy for those that might not be able to install it?

I ask because I've recently had a product that couldn't get past the activation phase of the install.

Oh boy, this doesn't sound too good.
Install on just one machine? I run FSX on two computers (one laptop for my frequent travels), so this would mean buying it twice?
And how about computer crashes (says the man with first-hand experience, my desktop just stopped today, AAAAAAARRRGGGHH!!!)? Redownloading and re-installing possible?
Don't misunderstand me, I understand about piracy problems, but buying it twice for on my laptop....
Besides, the stories I've heard about Ariane are terrible, which would hold me back as well. I think I'll wait a bit after release...good thing I'll be away for the next month (with my laptop), so please publish it quickly, and I'll see when I get back. Good luck with the final stages of development!

If you really can't use it on your system, then of course we will refund you.
But we do not see that happening.

Guys, we don't want to make it difficult for anyone and the last thing we want you to do is jump through hoops just to get your aeroplane working.
The Ariane system has been honed over time to be trouble free as long as poeple READ the manual.

Bad reports about installation problems are usually put about by the ones who didn't read and need their hands held through the installation.

We have prepared a, forgive the phrase, 'idiot proof' set of instructions and as has been pointed out you will have to wait and see.

Jankees, if you require further keys for yourself and provide your order details, then there will be no problem.

Ah, clearly written with me in mind !! :icon_lol:

Good to hear about the refund policy, too. Looking forward to getting these into the hangar on the FSX side. Thanks for the update, sir.

Ya I will be honest, you have most likely lost a customer here as well. No matter what you do it will be pirated. Period. There is no way around that. It will eventuelly be cracked so all you are doing is making it difficult for your buying customers to use their product. And what if somebody gets a new computer? do they really have to get a new key? There are a few planes that I have shyed away from buying because of their ridiculous security measures. Good luck with this plane but I certainly won't be buying it. I'm sure your waiting cutomers won't be happy with the fact that you have held off releasing this product so that you could make the buying process more inconveinent for us. Good luck...

And what if somebody gets a new computer? do they really have to get a new key?

I may dislike Ariane greatly for what they have done in their past and I may have seen and heard very bad things regarding their security system (although mainly, as I said earlier, about the abject lack of support given to users regarding said system). Nowhere, however, have I heard of anyone having to buy the product again after buying a new computer.

Reactivating (and having major problems doing so, occasionally to the point of giving up entirely) yes, but never having to pay again. Can you post a link to where you read that please, because that would clearly and quite rightly upset a heck of a lot of people if it is true.
