How did I miss this?

I was just over at Flight Sim searching for Iris P-40 paints and stumbled onto the SkyUnlimited Bf 109F. Never even knew it had been released as freeware and am downloading it now.

I've had a thing for the Bf 109E and F since my CFS 1 days and Piglet did an excellent 109F for that sim.

Filename bf109f-1.zip if you're interested.

Oops.. download done.. got to go install and test fly..

Yeah, its a fun one. I got mine in June 2008 when Jesse offered it up through the forums here. The thread was lost in the big crash. Glad to see it at flightsim too. Have fun!!

I'm not sure if the package on Flightsim.com offers the texture "fix" that adds the swastika to the tail of the aircraft or not...haven't looked at it. If not, on the Sky Unlimited forum, there is a package that adds the swastika to the paints and the paint kit for the plane.

The freeware package, the paint "fix" and the paint kit can all be found on the Sky Unlimited forum...here's a link to the page:

FS2004 SkyUnlimited BF-109F Package. This Messerschmitt BF-109 has been released as freeware courtesy of SkyUnlimited Productions. Included are over twenty paint schemes, virtual cockpit, tropical variants, accurate flight dynamics, viewable engine details, custom sounds, working machine gun effects, historical information, and an actual Bf-109F checklist. The main installer will install international friendly repaints without swastikas, but an additional installer is included that will install historical swastikas for those users that prefer accuracy. In addition, a repaint kit is also included. By Jesse Lambert.[/SIZE]

Yep, I can confirm the swastika install file is included and works. Things kind of fell apart here in the house while I was going through the files looking for mistakes and I might not get to test fly it today. (washing machine died. Had to go buy a new one and get things ready for it to be delivered bright and early tomorrow along with a new sectional sofa that I bought Vickie for Christmas)

BTW, the texture.trop 6 folder is missing all the textures except for the _t one. Just copy them all over from another trop paint and don't allow overwrites and it should be fine.

Managed to get a few minutes in for a quick flight over Alaska. Seems like a pretty nice flier that I'm going to have to spend more time with.

I just fired up my Vintage Military install to take a spin in the SU Bf-109 and I don't even have it installed. What is WRONG with me? That is actually a rhetorical question so don't go giving me a Excel spread sheet on all of my personality and character flaws LOL!

On a side note: At what point in history did the Me-109 become the Bf-109 or vice versa. I have seen the 109 with the Me- and the Bf- preambles (no that's not the right word..my brain is drawing a blank in the area of grammar right now).

Hi,

I would have to look it up myself but the change from Bf- to Me- took place only after the introduction of the 109/110, so it would be after 1937 or so, maybe only even early in the war, 1939 or '40. However, it seems like the Me- designation was used colloquially earlier than that and it would be used side by side for the time to come, sometimes even in the same document.

Best regards,
Volker

I've read everything I could find on the Bf 109 for years. Actually it was never officially the Me 109 as it was designed by Bayerische Flugzeugwerke. The Me designation applied to all new designs after Willy Messerschmitt took over the company about 1938 or so. Even the late war models such as the 109K carried the Bf designator on their data plates.

However the Luftwaffe after 1938ish used both Bf 109 and Me 109 in their paperwork.

A lot of arguments have gone on about this over the years. I use Bf as that was what Messerschmitt put on the aircraft data plates.

Thought the gauges looked familiar. They're the default CFS 1 Bf 109E gauges. Good thing I've got a bunch of higher definition German gauges in my stash. Time to break out FS Panel Studio....
