I remember that one. The early stealth technology. I believe it did not go too fas as the material used did not have the same strength as the doped fabric. (Pls correct me if I'm wrong there).

It should be easy to do if one made a complete model of the structure and use transparent surfaces to cover it (like in the amazing scale model you show). No need for skin apart from the crosses. Quite heavy on the frame reates though.

Thanks for great pics again, WomenFly2!
The lower picture makes me ask a question, to you and other REAL pilots around here:
are they seriously telling me, that Immelmann did his famous manoeuvers with these fragile dragon fly wings?

PS: you're one of the few people round here, who always contribute something to look at, to be asthonished about, or at least entertaining. And all that in typicall pilot's brief form. Thank you for that!

Immelman did do his famous maneuvers in one of these fragile birds, covered in canvas, however. I think that was just an experiment in early stealth technology, like Dimus said. Looks funky.

... how about a try on this one?
It would only look good from 1 angle if done as a skin. To do it right, you'd have to make the 3D model of the airplane structure, then set the outer surfaces to be translucent.

or use an alpha channel in the map, but that would make a very heavy xxxx_t.dds !
I still think it would be the best to reproduce it accurately.

My question is ..... why can't we see the pilot's skeleton?

Wow you can actually see the fuel tank protecting the pilot's back ;)
