How to add thumbnailpicture to profile

Hi,
Please instruct me how to add a picture into my profile so that it will be visible in posts?

Go to the top of your screen and click on "Settings". Next, on the left side, click on "edit Avatar". Now it's just like adding a screenshot!
 
It is indeed like adding a screenshot. But that shot in the OP is waaaaaaaay too big!
