How to create AI traffic?

centuryseries

SOH-CM-2023
Ok, so I have installed AIFPC but firstly, where are the files located that I must decompile/recompile? AIFPC didn't seem to have a manual?!!

Secondly, what is the 'standard' program that folks use to edit flight plans?

Any help greatly appreciated. I'm a fairly experienced FS user, but the lack of a manual with AIFPC has me thrown!!

EDIT - PLEASE IGNORE, JUST FOUND AI FLIGHT PLANNER WHICH SEEMS TO BE PRETTY GOOD!

Yup. I Use AI Flight Planner. :d

All AIFPC does is takes an FS9-format file (such as the Traffic_PAI.bgl file from a ProjectAI installation) and converts it into FSX format, which means that it doesn't block all the boat and aircraft AI from FSX, as would happen if you installed the unmodified FS9 format bgl.

For anyone else interested, AI Flight Planner can create AI traffic for both FS9 and FSX, import lists of both aircraft and default/add-on scenery information for both sims... It's a very useful tool. Which I only closed a few minutes ago after tweaking Fowlmere's traffic.

Hi there,

I've used it some time ago and was able to put some flightplans into FSX.
The question to me still is how to control the speed of the ai.

kind regards,

Meso

The speed of the AI is controlled (if you can call it that!) by the cruise speed figure in the aircraft file.

However, the cruise speed is used to calculate how long it will take an aircraft to get from A to B. The actual speed of the aircraft in the air when you're trying to chase it is determined by the cruise speed set in the FDE, I believe.

Edited to add: AIFP will import the cruise speed from aircraft.cfg when you import an aircraft.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the reply. I figured out it takes the cruise speed from the aircraft.cfg. I was wondering if that figure is used to force the ai to actually fly that airspeed.

kind regards,

Meso

What are the main reasons an aircraft won't show on the tarmac? Does FSX still need parking radius set etc?

I'm trying to get some tankers at RAF Mildenhall - UK2000 scenery. But so far I have been unsuccessful in seeing the test tanker before departure time.

That's the theory! How well it works in practice I'm not sure, but I have used it to work out what speed I need to chase things around at in the past and it seems to be correct - subject to windspeed at least.
