This is easy in FSX. How do I do it in P3D? I almost always fly daytime fair weather, but have been wanting to fly in real conditions lately. Do I need a 3rd party tool?

Just to answer the last part of the original question: YES, you do need a thrid party tool to get real weather data into P3D.
The real world weather option from FSX is missing in P3D, so you have to download a weather program, freeware or payware, to get real weather in P3D.

I use Active Sky Next (ASN) which is excellent, but payware. And it has a new version, called Active Sky 2016 (AS16), which is even better.
The good thing with Active Sky is that is not only gets the real world weather for the place you're flying into, but it also get it for the precise date you chose (historic). If you set a free flight on the 1st of January 2014, you will get the weather from that day at that place.

There are a few freeware alternatives though, with much more limited features. FSRealXW is one of them, if I remember correctly.
