How to edit a mission file?

I simply want to change the "time" of a mission (want it to be daylight vs night).
I cannot seem to edit any of the mission lines. Is there a trick to opening the file?

You can open and edit the xml files with 'Notepad'. If you hand edit a mission you may not be able to open it in the mission builder.
