How to install PTO after following the ETO 1.0 and 1.2 installation guide

I have successfully installed the ETO 1.0 and then 1.2 by following the "ETO 1.0 and 1.2 installation guide" available on this forum.

I would like to install the PTO this way, but I don't see any guides for that. There is a "readme" file in the last PTO update 1.54, but there is none for the remaining ones, and there's nothing on how to do it using the MultiCFS program that the above installation guide mentions.

Oh, and I'm running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks,
Quantum09

:kilroy:Quantum09, good catch, you're on your toes, but the multicfs3 is not needed for PTO. The installer will do all of that for you. All you have to do is install it.

Very similar to ETO, PTO merely copies what it needs from your clean, unmodded, fully-updated (3.1 and 3.1a - you should already have done this) vanilla CFS3 install and puts it into a new folder named CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands.

You start with PTO Build 1.4 Main Base Install (don't get it confused with the PTO Update 1.40).

Then install each of the numbered Updates in order (PTO Update 1.0, PTO Update 1.13, PTO Update 1.22, etc).

Note: Before installing each Update, be sure to start PTO, click FLY in the QC section, and then shut PTO down.

I hope this helps.:d

Well it's not that easy. I chose L:\Program Files\CFS 3 PTO as the installation directory, and I received a note that it is invalid, so I chose the L:\Program Files\Combat Flight Simulator 3 (clean CFS 3 location) as the installation directory and now I'm getting an error trying to run the game and then it crashes.
I really don't know what to do now...

After I've finished with the ETO 1.2 installation guide, I ended up with CFS 3 in 3 directories:
K:\cfs3\cfs3bckp\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3 <- this is my clean installation patched to version 3.1 (3.1 a is really not necessary in contrast to what everybody says).

L:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3 <- this is where I was trying to install the PTO after I saw the message that the
L:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS 3 PTO folder I chose for PTO installation is invalid.

L:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 ETO Expansion <- that's where ETO 1.0 and later ETO 1.2 was installed

Then I moved to installing the PTO and the first Update (the 1.4 Base Install) went fine and I ran the game using the:
L:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3\cfs3.exe
file (I thought this is what you meant by saying to run the PTO after each update).

Then I moved to Update 1.0, I saw a window with something about addons that I had no idea what to do with so I clicked the Exit button.

After the installation was finished, I tried to run the game and after the intro movie I'm getting this error message:

Can't load the campaign file "Fortress Europa.xml".
Reason: Unknown country id "Britain".

And after that the game crashes.

:kilroy:Quantum09, first of all, don't panic. You will learn this. It is easier than you think once you learn how. True, it is much simpler when you only have to deal with a C-Drive. It does tend to get a bit confusing when you spread it out over several drives.

First of all delete out all of your PTO installation.

For the record, you need a copy of CFS3 on the drive where you intend to install PTO (or ETO, MAW, KS or whatever other CFS3-based add-on stand-alone game).

Simply copy your vanilla CFS3 install to the drive where you choose to install PTO, and then install PTO to that drive. Do not run this install of CFS3. Diect the PTO Build 1.40 Main Base Install to the drive where you have just put the vanilla copy of CFS3. The PTO Build 1.40 Main Base Install will copy that CFS3 install from there when you point the PTO installer there. After the PTO Build 1.40 has been installed, delete that copy of CFS3 from that drive so that it doesn't interfere with the one you have on any other drive. Then run the PTO install and shut it down for the installation of the next update. Continue to run and shut down PTO between Update installations.:d

I deleted the
L:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3
directory
and copied the
K:\cfs3\cfs3bckp\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3
there again

Then I ran the 1.4 base install installation, and I chose
L:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO
as the installation directory.

Then a command prompt window showed up and displayed the following messages:
Code:

***
*** Several hundred files and folders from the main CFS3 directory
*** Will be copied to a new directory in preparation for installing
*** the PTO Solomon Islands. None of the

Is this the way it should be?

I continued the installation hoping all is well so far...

It finished successfully and now I have 3 shortcuts on my desktop:

cfs3 config Solomon
with these properties:
Target: "I:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands\cfs3config.exe"
Start in: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands"

cfs3 Solomon
with these properties:
Target: "I:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands\cfs3.exe" -time
Start in: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands"

MB Solomon
with these properties:
Target: "I:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands\mb\mb.exe"
Start in: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands\"

Of course neither one works because:
1. There is no "Microsoft Games" folder in I:\Program Files
2. I don't even have a C partition

Wull.......

Sorry man there is just so much wrong about this I just don't know where to start

Sorry

Guys, thank you so much for helping, and I think that I'll just let it go until theres some kind of an installation guide or someone make it easier to install. I think it's too trivial to waste time and nerves on it.
I'm not sure how to say it, but really there are better things to do then wasting time on such thing. :ernae:
