How to make an Fs9 sound file

How do you do it ?

I'd like to make an engine sound file for an ASh-21 engined Yak/Let C-11.

There's some good clips on youtube of them starting, taxiing, take off, fast fly-by's,landing and taxying back in,is it possible to "clip"the sound and make a file to use with the Yak?

As you may have figured, it ain't easy. :playful:

One of the problems with sound folders and files is that they are VERY subjective. What sounds good to you may not sound as good to someone else.

Check out the download sites that list download numbers for sound files.
Find a download for your type of aircraft that has had LOTS of downloads.
Try it out and see (or hear) how it fits your aircraft. If, for an example, the engine note just doesn't sound right you could try playing around with the sound levels in the sound.cfg file.
Be careful adding your own .wav files, the .wavs in FS usually need to fall into a range involving bit rates and compression.

As I mentioned, sound folders and files are subjective based on the people who use them.
This is why creating a sound folder tends to feel more like a "dark art". Its like the difference between writing a song and a number 1 smash hit. There really shouldn't be a difference, but there is. There really isn't a tutorial out there on how to write a config file from scratch, it involves a lot of guess work and testing.

I’m guessing here because my computer project isn’t yet at the stage where I can access my old files. If I could, I would look at the FS9 SDKs and I’ll bet I’d find a sound SDK that will tell how to make a sound.cfg file from scratch. I think the SDKs are here in the library, though I’m not sure of that.

Sorry, I gave you a bum steer.

Andy's link will take you to the whole set, but when I checked it out I didn't find a Sound SDK.

That surprised me, they have SDKs for everything else, but not for Sounds.

All,

The sound info is in the Aircraft Container SDK file. I ran across it when making the template for my aircraft cfg files.

Go down to page 51 just after the model.cfg explination. It runs down to page 61 just before the texture folder section.

Like all the other sections, however, you'll probably have to figure some stuff out yourself. All it really tells you is what to put where, but no real explination as to the why -- much less how they interact with each other. Then again, it may just be my understanding. You may have a better grasp of it.

There's a sound studio program out there, I believe, but it's payware like the panel studio program is. It allows you to make a sound file from scratch like the panel program does. All you have to do is add the sound files like you would gauges in the panel program, then save.

I have the panel one, but never got the sound one since others have been doing a better job than I ever could in that department! :encouragement:

I'm not sure what OBIO uses, but he's got a few good packs here.
