I Make 'em U break 'em
I just tried reloading CFS2 on my computer which has been updated about 3 times since the last time I even USED CFS2. Nothing works right, even my own aircraft look like crap (or worse than usual anyway) and the VC panel doesn't even work. Is the machine too modern for the old warhorse now? It has: Amd FX-8120 Eight Core Windows 7 64-Bit NVidea GeForce GT 630 video card You can't adjust the video or turn on acceleration in the game screen so I am stuck with what it has and what it has doesn't work. My brother wanted me to upgrade some files for him but I can't even get the game to run in order to see what I am doing. Then, just to show how out of touch I am, I loaded CFS2 on my laptop and all I get is a CTD when I try to open anything other than campaign mode. Oh, the joy . . . . Bill D.

Please, please.

:jump: By all means do continue your effort to make the new computer obay your CFS-2 commands. Your work is of the most utmost importance to the society, and really what keeps CFS-2 running after all these years. Please do NOT give up, we need you all too much.

Don´t give up.

I run Windows 8 64bit, which can easily operate the old 32bit game.

The virtual appearance was not as I had it on my old notebook with the latest 3rd party catalyst video card drivers, which offered more settings, especially for antialiasing.

In the meantime, I played with the settings of the NVIDIA setup system and can save settings for each different CFS2 install I have.
The pics are smoother than ever.

Only thing is, I get CTDs, when switching to some 2D panels.
I found out, these have the entry "render_3d_window=1" in it. Swithing it off (=0) or deleting it completely solved the problem.

Bismarck13,

Welcome back! I'm sorry I haven't responded today. My laptop died, and I've been spending the afternoon and evening shuffling between being a taxi service and a domestic diva. I'll have the laundry finished by 11pm, and then I'm off to bed. I should be free tomorrow and Sunday, though.

Yes, welcome back Bis!

Stay in there. The other alternative is to run a virtual machine within your OS. VM ware etc, easy to install, then XP OS, and then run CFS2 in that environment. CFS2 needs very little resource-wise, so even a modest Win7 / 8 laptop will run that well.

Cheers

It does "run" but

There is no detail to the aircraft and the VC panels/gauges are not being processed. It used to be just a matter of adjusting the settings, but now I can't adjust the settings in the game because I can't turn on Hardware Acceleration. It won't let you choose the option. It is like it is "frozen." I was trying to do some work on a VC in one of my old clunkers but I can't do it if I can't see it in the game

Bismarck13,

The symptoms you are describing, especially the settings being "frozen," makes me wonder about something.

Humor me on this...check your modules folder against a clean install (or the files on the install disks) and see if all of the .dll files are there. If they are, try overwriting them with those from a clean/new install. Then, delete any filelist.dat and .cdp files.

The reason I am suspecting it is I'm wondering if your anti-virus software might have eaten or corrupted one of your .dll files.

Bill,
I think Jaxon's way, of making a graphics profile for your CFS2 is the way to go. CFS2 is not recognising the graphics card and/or the drivers, it thinks there is no graphics hardware available to enable better graphics ie gauges, external details etc, so poor low res graphics.

In Settings - Advance - Display Settings does it correctly identify your graphics card? ie GeForce GT 630

Also where has your OS installed CFS2? Try taking a copy of that install (only about 750-850Mb), and putting it in the route directory ie c:, not in Programmes...etc etc, and run the programme as an administrator. If that does nothing you can just delete it.
