I am so confused...

On Another Planet
Recently I have been having many problems with my Windows Vista 64 bit install. Many times when I am flying FSX It will crash and restart (fsx that is). With just about any plane I fly it crashes at some point in the flight. Also I get oom errors every once in a while but usually it just crashes. Also my firefox has stopped keeping me logged in to websites. Usually it keeps me logged in until i clean my cookies but now It logs me out every time i close firefox. I am about to do a clean OS install out of sheer frustration. Shouldnt be hardware failure either. I have Evga 750i FTW mobo, q9550 oc'd to 3.4 ghz, 8 gigs of ddr2 1066 g skill ram,and a gtx 260 ssc edition core 216. If anyone can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate this.

Its not your OS install..Don't do that

Your getting logged out of FireFox is a known browser issue with them..

You OOM error can be addressed and fixed..

Your crashing in flight is probably due to a unstable OC ( my first thing I would address)

Try running Prime for the OC stabality

Try running Memtest for OOM errors...

Overclocks and memory go together...By raising your FSB you also changed your ram timings ..They might need more volts to handle whats happening...

well I will try Google Chrome but my oc should be stable. My temps are very high though and I think it may be because of my mainboard being old and not designed for the cpu i have. I will try memtest but I have done prime95 before and it was stable...hot but stable.

Hmmm Hot but stable....It may just being shutdown for heat then..Intel has that feature built in to save the CPU...

You should also address the heat issue soon to..

Have you tried monitoring your temps when flying in windowed mode?

It isnt flying that raises the temps, they are high in general and honestly they dont go up much when fsx is flying, maybe a few degrees. I dont know what to do to address the heat issue. A new mobo is all I can think of. I have an antec 1200 and a xigmatek cooler which are both supposed to be great for cooling. My comp is up off the floor too. I tried reapplying therm paste but that didnt work. I dont know what to do.

So..What are the temps on it at idol and under load?

How much paste did you put on the CPU? Are you sure the legs are tight in place and the heatsink does not rock or move? Are you sure the fan is running and the fins are blown out?

It sounds like it has not got a good bond there..That can be fixed....

Can you post a HWMonitor pic that shows all your temps?

BTW The 705 FTW and the Q9550 are fine together..both are 775 socket so thats not the problem...

I know they are both 775 but the 750i FTW is really old and is not designed for the newer cpus. My idle temps are around 50 C and under load the max they reach is 55 C. I put a little more than a grain of rice sized drop of therm paste on the cpu and I didn't move it aorund just like you are supposed to. I will open my case and make sure all fans are running but I am almost posative they are. Even with fans on max it is the same temp. On my oc i just changed the fsb to 1600 and then upped the voltage to 1.32500. Is this because the fsb on my mobo is 1000/1333 and I have the cpu fsb set to 1600?

Well you applied the heatsink correctly.....

I don't know about your OC numbers..The temps are high but well within limits...

I would highly suspect the OC as main factor.....

I would set your bios back to default and try it a few days and see how it acts...

Then we have a good guide above to OC again...

That will see if its your voltages that are causing the high heat and crashing as result of your OC...
