I didn't think that it was possible...

... To improve upon the old Defense of Australia V2 Port Moresby airfield complex, but Pen32 has done it!

Here are a few shots of a work in progress.

Holy Crap! Now I'm gonna' have to learn how to install all this scenery stuff ... and more to the point ... make it work!

Just too cool!

Thanks Gents;

At this moment we're testing or tails off. I'm up-dating every PM area mission I can find and flying it looking for FPS problems. With 6 fields in a pretty close formation and just over 1500 Objects in the GSL it needs to be looked at hard. I'm loading up the fields with extra MB Objects, static Aircraft, AA, vehicles and such to see just how well they will do in missions.

About DoA/DoA2. What I did is replace the their old airbase.dat entries with the new ones. I have one more field than they do, 12-Mile Berry, which wasn't built until mid-43. I replaced the stock Port Moresby entry with this one. How you do it is up to you.

To update the missions you'll just have to open them with the MB and move the Take-Off and Landin WP's to their correct location. Save the mission and hand edit the Bettys and Nells back to Unit_Family=2.
I don't know how much ground infrastructure they included in their missions. That'll have to be updated too. BUT, as usual, I will be including "Fully Loaded" Layouts for Mission Builders to use. I have the set of AA Only ones done now. I'll get the others done this week. Right now I'm flying an old PNG P-39/P-400 Campaign and it's going very well. I'll be hitting DoA2 next.
Edit: BTW, Rami already said he'd being doing a complete update of this Campaign right after the new scenery is released.

Speaking of location. I utilized a combination of Wartime Maps, most from 1943, data from Pacific Wrecks, other web sources and Google Earth to pin point the location of the fields. I took that information and went into CFS2 and looked at the lay of the land as MS has created it. I merged those two together to create the most historically correct fields and locations "As I Could" taking into account terrain and known AI behaviors. I didn't want AI's splattering the hillside just becuase they were trying to land. Fortunatly things worked out damn well in that aspect.

One thing I'd like to impart to everyone is a little piece of historical knowledge about the PM area. From the textures in CFS2 you'd think the entire area was solid jungle. It was not. Huge areas were, and are to this day grassy plains, low scrub, swamp, scatter trees and then patches of dense woods. Don't expect these to look like the Northshore fields that were hacked out of the jungle.

When? I hope to upload both the new Airfield Buildings Pak and the PM Airfield Complex before Saturday. Friday night is my target. The testing has gone well so far with only one minor problem, and we think we've found the reason for it. It's not really a problem with the new stuff but another add-on BGL that has a higher priority. We think! We're working that one right now.

So get your P-38's, P-39's, P-40's, P-400's, Beaufighters, Beauforts, Bostons, Havocs, Hudsons, Mitchells, B-17's, and B-24's (did I leave anyone out?) ready, you're gonna have six new homes to fly from, new Landclass for the entire PM Town and Valley, new Burning Oil Barrels, 35 new Buildings and a new Heavy Bomber Revetment to boot, in just a few days.

We'll let you know if anything goes wrong. If you don't hear much from me consider that as a sign things are going well and on schedule.

Thanks Again... See Ya' on the Flight Line.

New Buildings

Here are some of Pen's GMAX buildings that you get with his package. Pen has modified the textures somewhat since I made these info shots, but you can get an idea from them how nice the new package will be.

The info shots will be included in a mega mission builder support pack that I should have uploaded about the time Pen uploads Port Moresby.

Splendid job Pen32Win!
:applause: :jump: :applause: :jump: :applause: :jump: :applause:

I'll glady fly DoA v2 campaign again, JUST TO ENJOY YOUR SCENERY!

....mmmm, I guess I will enojy it hanging from a parachute if I won't watch my six carefully, but that's ok! :costumes:

Even though the missions will have to be edited to accept the new strips coordinates, that's not a problem with all the tutorials and hands-on info available here at the House!

Cheers!

I just want to thank Jag for showing us whats comming in Pen32win next AF project and I want to specialy thank Pen32win for doing it.

Every day this Sim becomes better thanks for Guys like you!

Thank you again!:wiggle:

Thanks Guys, wait until you fly around it.....

Testing is going well, MB "Fully Loaded" Layouts = 5 of 6 completed. A couple of little things to create. READ_ME is about ready for proofing.

Things I've Been Asked About:

I used a single tree type for a reason, actually two. The tree I chose is fairly low and very wide. I was on a strict objects budget for this project. Wider = Use less tree to fill a given area. Less textures for CFS2 to display at once. On my own install I'm going to try a Mix. I will be including the MB Layouts for the entire complex in the package. If you don't like what I've done you can create your own version to suit your taste and computers level.

The problem I spoke of in my last post was resolved. It was the Coast Pacific Package. At Kila it was undercutting the east end of the field. This New scenery will have to be lower on the list than the CP flattens.

For early 1942 the fields are overdeveloped, for the last quarter of 1942 they're close. For 1943 they're great other than the existance of Berry in the first 5 months of the year. For 44-45 the big fields (Wards & Jackson) are a bit under developed, the smaller fields are still good. When the frontline move forward to the Dobo and Nadzab dromes Jackson and Wards continued to be the pipeline to the front and support the Heavy Bombardment Groups. I have a photo of a B-50 in 1955 using Jackson so it continued to be used for quite some time by the USAAF. The other smaller Fighter and Medium Bomber Fields started their way down hill.

Well, I'm happy now.

This is Jackson and Wards, the two biggest fields. 600 objects in the GSL Layer. Jackson, in the foreground has another 102 static mission objects, mostly B-24's, some C-47's and a few P-39's. Plus 24 AA Guns, 90mm's and 40mm's. On top of that add the highest resolution MDL of AlphaSim's B-24D.

Still pulling 23-25 FPS. I think we're going to be good to go....

Starting to wrap it all up....
