first..dont take this as an advetisment here,,im not trying to sell to you, what i want to do is ask you all what your opinions are as to whether i should sell my truck or not.
im 47years old.on heavy medications..several are opiates(im not going to name them),because of a previous DUI years ago,im not going to chance driving anymore while on these meds,i also know im not going to go off these meds for the rest of my life as surgery is out of the question as another one will paralize me.
i own a 2000 chevy silverado 6 liter vortec 300hp/325 torck, auto trans,16000 orginal miles.its a great truck ive allways said i wanted to keep it and keep it low milage so it would be "rare" in the future...but ive got bills to pay and congress gave themsevles a raise and froze Social secrity cost of living increases through 2011...

so i ask...since im not going to drive the truck any more..should i sell it and get as much as i can,pay some bills,(save some money, registration yearly and insurance)and get caught up on my debt...or keep it for sentimental reasons?.....( i paid cash for it,and drove it off the lot with 2 miles on the odmiter,my first brand new vehical)

Dave that is a tough one. I had a 1968 Cougar XR-7 Dan Gurney Special that I had to sell to get out of a tough situation when I was in my twenties. I sold it to a friend that I trusted implicitly and told him if he ever sells it, I get first crack at it. I sold it to him with 20,340 mile on it and when he decided it was time to sell it, it had only 54,300 miles on it. He sold it back to me in mint condition 10 years later for exactly what I sold it to him for-what a great friend he was(now deceased). You might see if you can find someone like that. It is hard to trust people nowadays. It seems that greed has taken over most folks, but there are some out there. You may want that truck back someday, so good luck my friend.
Ted

Dave,
Sorry to hear about your medical (and financial) situation. I understand that certain things have sentimental value, but you have to care of yourself first. Selling it might give you the money to afford your meds, doctor's bill, utilities and other necessities. I mean that truck is not going to feed you, clothes you or otherwise take care of you, and if it's paid for then you get 100% of the sale.

I say sell it, take a picture of it and put it in a nice frame. Or maybe buy yourself either a die cast model or build a model of it.

Either way, wish you the best.

Boy Dave, that's a stinker of a decision. I tend to agree with Ted & David about trying to keep it...but my life revolves around cars too.
Even though it's not likely to ever become a collectible like Ted's XR-7, it being your first bought-new set of wheels is sort of a milestone. We're probably talking about a good 20-30 years until it even becomes a rarity, but it's still only a Silverado and who knows what the future market holds for these "planned-obsolescense" vehicles they make now days. If it would be a special edition, like the old CSTs that Chevy made in the late-60s, then I'd say it's a keeper but just being "your truck" doesn't really make it valuable to others...just to you or maybe your family.
There is always that future hope that the docs might come up with something in the future that's not available now that might remedy your medical situation. If so, then you might wish you still had it.
Tough decision...and my post isn't really of much help either.

I think a tougher decision about your situation is that if you're on meds that are making you consider giving up your driving, what are your future transportation plans?
I'm not sure where you live...is public transpo an option or would you be relying on friends/family to get you where you need to be?
Do you have other wheels and will they fit your transpo needs?

Best of luck with your decision. In the end, you will make the right one. It might not feel like it at the time, but everything works out a specific way for a reason. Call it whatever you wish...fate, god's will, good judgement, gut instinct, etc...but just go with what you feel is right.

TBH I dont see that vehicle being a collectors item in the near future, and with the price of gas going up and the resale value of the truck declining your thirsty truck would better serve you in someone elses hands.

My continued hope for you're good health,

Hey Dave,....I'd say how much of a debt load you're carrying right now would decide whether to sell it or keep it. First,...I'd check the papers and see what people are asking for a 2000 Silverado with low miles. If it's lower than you expected,...and your outstanding debt is on the high side,....I'd say hold onto it. But because of immediate circumstances are playing into this dilemma.....sounds like your hand might be forced a bit. I think Moparmike stated it best,....go with what you feel is best. Give it a bit more time,...you'll then know for sure.

t5hanks for your input guys..one thing i failed to say...in future..if need comes..i will have my fathers truck and car to drive...he is going to leave both to me in the will do to a situation my sister is in..any real property she has will be taken in a law suit for the rest of her life so i get everything.(she really screwed up) but i do have that option for the future..now dad drives when he becomes ill or passes..i will have to do something about my meds and do the driving i guess or another family member...its lookin more and more like im going to sell my baby,

It's just a truck....sell it.
In 2006 I lost 50 years worth of stuff in a fire,no insurance. It took awhile to realize it but it's just stuff. That truck is useless to you right know but might keep you fed for awhile.Food and a roof over your head are the important things right now.

I don't know about where you're at, but around here full size pickups aren't bringing much. Just something to keep in mind.

I say lose it.....

Its a truck afterall...

take care of you...

Get a scooter if need be...

Sell it and take care of yourself....

You are still young, be healed first and you can get another truck, maybe better. I know it has a sentimental value for you, but between your health and your truck, choose your health....

I pray you be healed and be free from the situation you are in. Think positive Daveroo, you are alive and healing.... This is a beautiful world. Think of the pople who can't see, can't hear. You are blessed with a lot of things others don't have. :engel016:
