SOH-CM-2013
Mine was really good. The weather was great here in South Georgia. Did some radio controlled flying with several of my fellow Country Fliers. Shortly after I got to the flying field, one of the guys told me that he had a present for me. He said that he knew I was thinking about buying some rudder pedals for my FS Flight Sim and handed me his. Said he bought them but never really liked them too much and they were just collecting dust in a closet.

Christmas came early for me this year. :applause: I've just plugged them in and took my Cessna 140 for a little test hop. I can't imagine what he didn't like about them but, I'm glad as he saved me some money. Well, back to flying.:running:

Sometimes you just get lucky :ernae:!

Pedals make a world of difference for me, especially with tail draggers.

I am happy you got yours. :jump:

Lucky indeed. I have Saitek ones, I use them mainly on proper flights, test flights just get stick twist. I do find that I have to move my desk chair further back when using them due to the travel, putting me just at the edge of comfortable reach of my X52 and keyboard. If you've got an office chair on wheels, get some doorstops, lol, otherwise you'll be all over the shop.

Peddling along,
Jamie

Sounds like a good day in deed! RC flying AND a free set of rudder pedals.

I have something sort of like that....but it involved a brand new TrackIR 5 head tracking set up. Last year, shortly before Christmas, I took the dogs out for a potty trip and on the way back into the garage, I spotted a box in the chair sitting outside the service door. I checked the name on it to see if it was for our address or the duplex next door. It had our address on it. My name and all. The box was from Amazon.com.....and I KNEW I hadn't ordered anything. So I take the box and the dogs into the house and begin water boarding my wife to extract from her a confession about how much money she had spent on Amazon. Well, she drowned...proving once and for all that she was NOT a witch....oh, wait...that was the test I did on her mother....never mind. My wife did not order anything from Amazon.....so I carefully open the box...fearful that someone might have sent me some Anthrax or a nice bundle of C4 attached to a cheap wrist watch. No boom! That was good. In the box was the Track IR 5 package...brand new. And the packaging slip...which had the name of a SOH member. He had purchased a $150 Natural Point Track IR 5 system and had it shipped to me as a Christmas present.

I had always preferred to do my sim flying from the confines of the VC...as it seemed more "real" than using the 2D panel. After receiving the TrackIR system....I refuse to fly a plane that does not have a VC...won't even have them in my installs.

There is generosity left in the world.....lots of it actually...it just goes unsung and under proclaimed. Which is a pity since generosity is one of the finer points of humanity.

Tim,

You should double think this. Those planes without VCs make good AI aircraft for ones you can't find as AI specific. They are much lower poly counts, so don't overload the video card so much. I have a large folder full of those, for future use.

I miss my rudder pedals. They have suddenly quit being recognized by windows.

Well guys, the rudder pedals have already gone inoperative. Could be any number of reasons. I'm guessing they were damaged due to being stored in an outside building for so long or something. Anyway, my chief financial offer gave me permission to order a new set. ON THE WAY....:running:

Hey Modelr, what do you have in the airplane in your avatar? BTW you look mighty familar...Ever been to Hodge's Hobbies and seen Mac's B29 fly?

modelr,

I know that VC-less planes make great AI choices due to their lower poly count. That fact does me no good since I have no understanding of how to set up AI flight plans. I have found not a single easy to follow tutorial on how to set up AI flight plans. There are programs out there for setting up AI flight plans....and I have never been able to figure out how to use them. So, the AI I have is the stock FS9 AI set up. Would love to add more AI to my sim, but am clueless how to do it.

I can really recommend going for WOAI and MAIW, rather than the stock AI. And also look for the Ultimate GA AI packs (Avsim I think) for a little extra variety. Loads of options out there, wothout having to set up your own AI, and it makes for much more interesting skies.

Any time buddy...

Hey Obio

Are you really serious. I can'y leave you stranded like that. (Thanks to you, I now have four sims installed on my pc, going fifth for 'Golden Age' and never looked back).

So I'd love the chance to be able to help you out. And as far as simming is concerned, just wait till your skies come alive with serious traffic. The stock traffic is just....wel its just!

If you would like me to walk you through it, my pleasure.

Andy's right about the WOAI and MAIW traffic, and it's easier than installing an new aircraft.

Don't let it scare you, it's really quite simple.

Obio,

I'm with the guys on this one, simplicity itself and the impact is nothing short of astounding. That is if you run a modern install, other eras are not so well catered for, bar Cal classics stuff.

If you want a groovy modern AI, firstly track down the default AI file in the scenery/world/scenery folder, give it a bogus extension, ie. .bak, then locate the GA replacement file on the big sites to replace your GA only traffic. Then go boogey 'til you drop with WOAI and MAIW, another bonus is much of the newer MAIW stuff comes with scenery or improved AFCADs.

That's it, nothing more unless you want to, install and go, no tweaking for a tweak-nut to worry about. Unless like me you FIND stuff to tweak, lol. Then, like me, go buy Helo Traffic from Flight1 and go nuts with that too. My only warning, it is as addictive as any other avenue of FS that you can tweak. But also as fun and rewarding.

good luck,
Jamie
