Last night I was flying a D.VII as flight lead for five other D.VIIs from Jasta 11. We were at high altitude, about 9,000 ft in a "Line Astern" formation when a group of four SPAD XIIIs flew under us in almost the opposite direction. I selected the enemy leader and pressed the "A" button. Just for grins, I panned backward to look at my men and write down their names (thank you Patch 1.2!) prior to the engagement. And lo and behold, one by one, all five of them from front to back each winged over, reversed direction, headed downward and conducted a diving pass onto the SPADs before the fight devolved into a huge flying furball. It was beautiful. Just like you see in the movies. And me without a camera or FRAPS running.
I think that's the first time I've ever had my wingmen obey me. And in such a beautiful and realistic manner. I'm going to have to see if I can duplicate that sometime. It would have made for an impressive clip for Youtube.
