I wonder if George Lucas would....

Hey guys,

So.. Now that CFS is definately out, and now the FS line also.. I wonder if George Lucas has thought of making a new, up to date, state of the art, awesome combat flight sim?

And... Perhaps he would be into making the sim engine available to smaller studios so that more sims could be released, thus bringing in more money into Lucas Productions.

Remember his game 'Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe'? (I loved that sim).

I remember getting that for my dad when it first came out... thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread!!! It cost a small fortune.... but it was worth it..... remember how jumpy the game was by today's standards? probably less than 1 fps!!!!

Maybe we should patition Mr. Lucas, along with other FS sites, and atleast let him know that there are simmers interested and ready for a new flight sim from him. If there was a patition out there, I'd sign it!

The man is a genius in knowing what the public want. I'll bet he may already be thinking about this, especially with Aces being closed. Less competition.

It would be cool to see him somehow make a deal and get the codes from MS and start redoing it with extreme scenery, WWII style. But then, perhaps they could whip out their own FS sim engine code in no time and have it populated by artists in quick order...

So many artists have created 3D art (villages and things) that are just waiting for game studios to purchase them up....

Then........... Once the sim engine code is done, he could lease it to studios and rake in even more money.. (My thoughts are that the game engines are the difficult part, and converting the environment 'in' the engine is the easy part. Who ever comes out with a 'sim engine' could lease it to everyone, similar to the other popular, high performance gaming engines).

Then people would go out and make money for you, basically.. Just relax and watch the funds come in.

But... Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, with todays gaming technologies and special effects, existent, on the shelves, waiting for something like this to come along, would be brilliant...

And later, George Lucas and company, could also create Star Wars Worlds... like flight simulator, but on SW planets, like Dantooine, Tatooine, Coroscant... Each planet, complete with a set of ships and speeders.

Agreed, I would love a good space sim, with a first person mode, and with different aircraft from different shows/fictional and a career mode, where you can be a cargo pilot, fly for a military like the rebellion or empire, or be a mercenary or just explore space. You could run an outpost or space station, and open ended like FS, where we can add to it. Man, so many things, yep it's needed.

good times

The first flying game I ever played was "Secret Weapons over Normandy" also by Lucas arts for the original Xbox (You could unlock a TIE fighter and X-wing for it).

This was before I had Xbox-live so I would spend a lot of time in free-flight mode flying in formation with AI planes and bombing factories at Penemunde. I guess that's where my interest in aviation started.

It had all the great "X planes" the XF5U (my favorite), XP-55, XP-56. Plus all the german secret jets and the DO-335. I had forgotten how good of a game that was...I'm feeling kinda nostalgic about it even though that was only a few years ago.

I agree totally though, Lucas Arts has a history of great flying games that hit the sweet spot of not being too "arcadey". Heck even their Star Wars games were pretty realistic in terms of flight controls.

Ahem!

Lets not forget that LucasArts started in flight sims in the Pacific.... my very first PC combat sim!

Bought the software and had to use it on a friend's computer in college!

Military simulations
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Lucasfilm Games developed a series of military vehicle simulation games, the first of which were the naval simulations PHM Pegasus in 1986 and Strike Fleet in 1987.[1] These two titles were published by Electronic Arts for a variety of computer platforms, including PC, Commodore 64 and Apple II.
In 1988, Battlehawks 1942 launched a trilogy of World War II air combat simulations, giving the player a chance to fly as an American or Japanese pilot in the Pacific Theater. Battlehawks 1942 was followed by Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain (1989), recreating the battle between the Luftwaffe and RAF for Britain's air supremacy. The trilogy ended with Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe in 1991, in which the player could choose to fly on either the American or German side. The trilogy was lauded for its historical accuracy and detailed supplementary material—Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, for instance, was accompanied by a 224-page historical manual.
The World War II trilogy was created by a team led by Lawrence Holland, a game designer who later founded Totally Games. Totally Games would continue to develop games almost exclusively to LucasArts, the most noted outcome of the symbiosis being the X-Wing series. They were also responsible for LucasArts' 2003 return to the aerial battles of World War II with Secret Weapons Over Normandy, a title released on PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC

Don't remember who did it, but I used to play the heck out of that Star Wars Pod Racer game. I could find more ways to crash...... :costumes:

I had one Star Wars game where you were a member of the Rebellion and at one level or point in the game, you were training in a captured Tie fighter. It starts out that you are flying behind this captain in his own Tie, and you dive down into this canyon with scenery much like Sedona Arizona...

Willy, I found about 1,000 ways to crash that Tie into corners and outcroppings of stone....

Finally made it though.

The best part was the first part when the captain says 'Here we go!' and he does a barrel roll dive down into this canyon, lolol... Brilliant!

A sim though would allow you to explore the world and terrain... Missions could have 'area's locked out or locked in rather... so you keep focused...

I hear yah Michael.. Man, it would be awesome...

Imagine flying a Correllion star frieghter from Tatooine to Corriscant and enter the atmosphere and blend in with AI sky traffic to a destination.... Would be way cool..

I would love to see Xwing and or Tie Fighter again with a modern face lift.. I loved those games! I think I still have My BOB and Secret Weapons boxes floating around somewhere.
