ICARO Agusta Westland AW139

WarHorse47

SOH-CM-2024
Has anybody encountered any problems with this Helo found on Hovercontrol? :salute:

The install is straightforward, and its a real nice Helo but I've encountered two issues that I can't seem to solve.

The first problem is I can't seem to shutdown the aircraft after a flight. Everything gets turned off, but the rotors continue to turn and engine is still running.

The second problem is that when I exit my flight it randomly closes FS9 rather than returning to the menu. I suspect it might have something to do with the long ui_type= entries, but I'm not sure.

Thanks

Someone can elaborate but there was a patch put out for this that may take care of your problems. http://www.nemethdesigns.com/downloads.html. Just scroll down a bit to Sikorsky S-76, Patch No.1. There was no readme but it replaces most parts pf the original.
:salute: Unless I'm mistaken this patch is for the wrong Helo. I've got the S-76 up and flying without any issues, now I'm focusing on the ICARO AW-139 which is a freeware download from the Hovercontrol site. Thanks anyways.

I install this Icaro Helo many weeks ago and I experience exactly the same
problem as described by WarHorse47.

I simply cancell this helo file from my FS9 Airplane file and everyting came back to
normal.

Oh cr*p don't listen to me when I've had less than one cup-a-joe. The 139 as I remember had a base set of files then a couple of others that aliased sound and maybe some other things to that base set. I don't think a long ui_manufacturer bothers much except in the window the text spills over to another field. Also rotor animation can persist quite a while in some aircraft.

Hi,

Also rotor animation can persist quite a while in some aircraft.

You can set this laps of time by modifying a parameter (bold)

[propeller]
thrust_scalar =1.000
propeller_type= 1
propeller_diameter= 6.300
propeller_blades= 2
propeller_moi= 5.000
beta_max= 0.000
beta_min= 0.000
min_gov_rpm= 0.000
prop_tc= 0.000

Higher number = more long time rotation of the prop
So .. you can synchronize the stop rotation of the prop with the sound :)

The starting and shutting off is a bit of a tricky thing on this whirly bird because of the advanced programming the guys at HC have employed to make it a true twin engine chopper with FADEC engines.

THe details for the start (including the requirement to stop the engine noise, rotor rotation etc) after initial load are described in detail in the manual in the DOC folder.

But very simply you need to switch the rotor controls in the overhead off manually either in the VC or via the SHIFT+2 panel ...or was it SHIFT+4. Then "brake" the rotor to a stop with the throttle.

I am as far from a proficient helo pilot as they come...I firmly believe that the wings should indeed never be travelling that much faster through the air than the fuselage. But this one is very nicely done and even I can manage to fly it reasonably well.

The only quirk I have found so far is that I incur nose gear damage even if my recorded touch down speed was less than 15ft/min.
I tried to increase the number in the cfg file but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

And I wished they had placed the working AP on the VC panel as well....but I am guessing that was just not possible.

Well, here is my progress so far.

I abbreviated the ui_type= entires and it seems to have solved the issue with closing FS9 on exiting the flight. I'll do some more flights to confirm that.

OleBoy, thanks for the research. I looked around the Hovercontrol forum but missed a lot of threads that you found. The one thead on the development of the AW139 had some interesting stuff. I downloaded one mod for blade blur and a fix for the missing FLIR.

So the remaining issue is the shutdown proceedure. My guess is that I'm not following the right proceedure per the manual for shutdown. One or two others have experience it as well stating that everything can be shut down, but the helo is still flyable. Now that Thanksgiving is over and I have no definite plans until I return to work on Monday, I'll do some more testing flying and see if I can figure things out.

Thanks all :ernae:

UPDATE: Issues Resolved. Just finished a flight from KOLM to Boeing Field in the CSAR model, full ILS, the works. Landed per ATC, taxied, parked and shut down per proceedure. Helps to follow instructions. Off to get them repaints, now. Thanks again, all.
