If I'm going to buy CFS 3, which one?

Which version should I buy? Amazon has them, and various sources through Amazon do as well. But I want to make sure I get the right version, and get the best value.

Get the Ubisoft DVD Version. You dont have to keep the DVD in the Drive to play and it is already patched.

Is it too late for me to ask for a copy of Phase 2 off some nice helpful soul?

I think the original files I downloaded ages ago have gone the way of all flesh . . .

No, by no means is it to late, there's a STICKY just North of here for requests :kilroy:

still not sure what I'm looking at

I was looking on Amazon, they have several different versions. Under "media type" a couple of them say "CD-ROM", and a couple of them say "video game". Also, they have some marked for XP and Vista, and others marked for 95,98, ME, and 2000. I use Windows 2000 Pro, SP 4. I'd like to order a copy today. Any help appreciated.

There are only two version that I know of. There is the original two-cd game from Microsoft and the DVD version from UBI. I believe they both should work equally well on any given system or operating system.

I'd prefer to not need to keep a CD in the CD-ROM, if it needs to access the CD to run, it has to be slower. And tie up resources.

Does the UBI soft version still have Microsoft on the box, or does it specifically say UBI soft?

This at EBAY is the DVD . . . .$14 + ship NO VISTA
http://cgi.ebay.com/MICROSOFT-COMBA...14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

Amazon has the Original 2CD's in Jewel Box $10 + ship

OR the Game in the Box w/ 2CD's for $26 + ship

How important is it to you, to not need the disc in 'D'

So the one in the "XPLOSIV" box is the DVD version?

I don't suppose it is critical. However, past experience has been that needing the CD in the drive has some drawbacks and is somewhat problematic or at least trouble prone.

No, the XPLOSIVE boxed CFS3 is the CD version. (Look at the "PC/CD" on the label in the linked pic.)

Reason I know firsthand: I purchased one from the same people via eBay. In my haste I clicked the "Buy Now" thinking I was getting the DVD version. Not so.

IMHO, I think the sim only spins the disc in order to load the data into memory. I haven't noticed it spinning during actual missions/flight.

Yep, I sent them a message, and they replied it is not the ubisoft version, and it requires the CD be in the drive. Evidently they get that question pretty often.

So my quest continues. No luck yet either. :banghead:

So far the only chaps that have really mentioned owning a Ubisoft copy have been from Germany.....I've had a look see around various UK stores and haven't noticed anything other than the Explosive version.

A quick search on ebay.de gives you this though CLICK

interestingly there also seem to be Ubi' ones marked as CD as well as DVD on the German Ebay site......but Pol's link may well be the best bet

Yeah, Polovski's suggestion looks good. I'm having trouble getting the site to give me a shipping cost and time, as well as converting to $ US.

FAQ has the shipping to the US as 6 Euros ( about $7 ) with the 9.99Euro of the game working out to about $12-$13

I am notoriously bad about most everything according to my wife!:kilroy:
