Hey all,
I always figured I'd do something like this if I ever got a real plane but was curious to see how it would hold up in the Esteemed Sim. With that in mind I decided to do a little cross country flight up to my sister's place in Kalkaska MI.
The plane was one of my new favorites, Ralf's W34fi.
Now I am not that enthusiastic about Instrument based flying; after all my idea of IFR is I Follow Roads. The road in question was US-131. After all Kalkaska is a straight shot from Grand Rapids via 131. All I had to do is follow the road.
After about 15 minutes I started to wonder if I was on the right road; however there is no radio equipment that wants to work and certainly no GPS. I can live without autopilot; after all the Junkers will fly hands-off at cruise speed when properly trimmed.
I'd have to say that not being able to use the radio, map or GPS to fix my position was unnerving to say the least. It wasn't until I passed Fife Lake that I realized I was on the right road and before long made a very uneventful landing at Y89.
Other from the road not looking the best I found that I could use it for navigation purposes; maybe next time I'll bring a road atlas with me just to make sure. Of course I'm probably going to mod the panel to put in at least a GPS.
Just thought I'd share.
