Ignoring RIAA lawsuits cheaper than going to trial

I don't understand how any recording company can feel that they deserve $750 per downloaded song, or more even. Heck, a store bought CD has, what, 14 songs usually and will lighten your wallet by less than $20. Why all the extra money? LAWYERS!

I think the message here is that if you stand up to the RIAA, you're going to get hammered and you're better off to just roll over to them. Not saying that I necessarily agree with it though.

I think what everyone in the world should take one CD that they bought legally, and give it to a friend, enemy, coworker, sibling, etc. No copying, uploading, or downloading. Then they give the CD to someone else, and so on ,and so on, again with no copying or loading... and so on...
Is it illegal to give a legally purchased CD as a B-Day gift? I think if the RIAA had thier way....
RIAA- Adapt or die.
