IJN Guadalcanal Campaign Almost Ready

Hello, Everybody!

It´s been a long time since I released my last campaign here, but now I´m finally ready to post a new one.
My small involvement with Captain Kurt´s 87 Days of Cactus campaign has sparked my interest in the Solomons theater, so I tghought it might be interesting to look at the Guadalcanal campaign also from the Japanese side.
I found a good book on the topic, "Guadalcanal 1942-43" by Mark Stille, published by Osprey Air Campaign, and a few internet resources that provided me with enough information to write 25 missions covering the time period from the American landings at Guadalcanal and Tulagi to the destruction of the last big reinforcement convoy the Japanese sent to the island in mid November 1942 from the viewpoint of a Japanese Zero pilot.
You will first fly long range escort and fighter sweep missions from Rabaul in the A6M2, and later transfer to Kahili / Buin, flying the A6M3-32 on convoy protection, more fighter sweeps and a few mission escorting dive bombers to Guadalcanal.
I tried to make these missions as historically accurate as I could with the information I had, although sometimes I had to use some imagination to make up for lack of detail in my texts. Still, I think everything is plausible and could have happened that way.

I´d like to say a big Thank You to UncleTgt for making the fantastic new Solomons scenery, and also for improving most of the planes used, mostly the Akemi Zeros, but also the G4M-1 and the D3A divebombers, among a few other things. Without his work it would not have been possible to put this campaign together.

It would be nice if one or two of you would volunteer to test the missions for me before I upload them here, just to make sure that they do indeed work properly, and I didn´t miss any links in the download list. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM with you e-mail so I can forward the package.

Having to watch your fuel status whilst trying to stay alive in combat brings new meaning to the word "multi-tasking" :a1310:

This campaign will surely have a different feel to "87 Days" ...:applause::ernaehrung004:

Hi Wolfgang,

Thanks very much for these missions which compliment Kurt's ones and UT's fabulous Solomons scenery.

I've really enjoyed all your previous mission packages. Like you, I prefer flying them as single missions. I also like the way you've ended each of these new missions.

Cheers,
Kevin

Skylane,

Wonderful job...I'm a big fan of "the road less traveled" campaigns! :santahat:

Thanks for the nice comments, Kevin and Andrew!
More "road less traveled" stuff is in the works, but will take time to complete..

Hey Guys,

Some time ago I started what I intended to be a small addon to my IJN Guadalcanal campaign, a few missions where you get to fly the A6M2-N floatplane Zero.
Seems I got carried away, I ended up with 20 missions, also using the F1M2 and E13A. They build on the previous campaign, just a few additional downloads are required.
So I just uploaded the package, just waiting for approval by the admins.
Have fun!

Description: This is the second part of my series of campaigns for the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Solomon Islands. It builds on the previously released IJN Guadalcanal campaign, which must be installed before installing this package.

It looks at the Guadalcanal campaign from the perspective of the IJN seaplane pilots, who flew in support of the Japanese efforts to retake the island from the US Marines in late 1942.

Looking forward to these, thanks Skylane! I very much enjoyed your IJN Guadalcanal campaign, can't wait to look at this conflict from a seaplane perspective. All three aircraft are a treat to fly.
