IL-2 Cliffs of Dover released

Good to hear your money wasn't wasted Mike. I've read posts about patches on SimHQ.

I've decided not to bother for a long while, however high on eye candy it may be it looks to be a bit gamey and as it stands it's certainly not a simulation of the Battle of Britain. Shockwaves BoB2 is simply miles ahead in that area.

CFS3 is the best all-round combat flight-sim and does just about everything I need it to do so I'm going to save my meagre earnings for the time being.

CFS3 is much better so far if I had not spent the $ on this I would not bother. I was real close to asking for a refund. The water and damage is really good on this.

Pat I will try. I have not flown this sim before so I do not know how to do that. But I will try to find that for you.

I'm just now finding out how to change the gun ammo load outs. you can put different traces with different rounds on you plane. There is a lot to this.
I have Easy tune 6 that came with the motherboard and I set the CPU to turbo. That I think is why I'm able to fly CoD now.. all on high so I can turn it down if need be. Like OFF phase 2 looks just as good at lower settings maybe. lol

The airfields are pretty basic Clive, nothing like ACC efforts! However they are at roughly the right locations. Will try and get some screenshots for you later. PS I havent forgotten about Redhill, just had very limited computer time as of late, but Im hoping to get back to it soon! :jump:

Hi Chris, nice to see you back posting again. :)

I must admit that the thought of making airfields for this is tempting, when/if an SDK is available.

Glad to be back! As promised here a few screen shots of some of the airfields in the game. I have put the graphic settings on high so you can see them in their full glory although this provided a very 'stuttery' flight along the south coast and when I got to London things just froze. A little disappointed that Westhampnett doesn't seem to be included and that some of the airfields represent later version not BoB era. The cockpits are nice though...

chriseponymous, you are running 64 bit windows right?

I'm knew to this sim how did you find the airfields? can you take off from them in quick flight or some thing like that?

WOW,
I am not impressed by the airfields, Our Masters do a MUCH better job..:salute:
Only the water effect right now has my attention, the airfields do seem to be lacking..

Yeah I'm running the 64 bit version of Windows 7, even with the graphics up full they still seem to be poor from a distance. I think I need to do some tweaking to get them to work a little better. Im in the same boat as you, I only bought the sim at the weekend and have only had chance to a play a few times. I found the airfields by choosing the Free Flight over England pre set mission which starts off in the air above Dover and then flew along the south coast. For the fields near London I picked the London sight seeing mission and flew south with the help of the map (right click mouse button.

Totally agree with you Owen about the airfields, they do seem to be lacking detail as well some basic research on designers part, Ford didn't have concrete runways in 1940! The game does have potential though, the cockpits are great as well as the lighting/shadowing effects the sea too is excellent. Considering this is the only area I can have a dogfight over without the computer stopping its a good thing. I think the flight models compare more with CFS3 than the previous versions of IL2, which I never liked, but in general the game needs work. There are some problems that need to be sorted by the designers but, as Clive pointed out, if it could be modded it would be a great game.

Very decent of you to take the time to do that Chris, much appreciated! :)

They're actually not as bad as I had been thinking, I managed to recognise most of them without having to read your tags. The geography of the surrounding roads seems to be about right too.

The general landscape looks more than a little odd, though it could grow on you I suppose. I'll be keeping an eye out for that SDK!

I've been wading through the posts over at SimHQ and it seems that once you get past all the whiners and fanboys the truth about this sim is somewhere in the middle, and there's little gems appearing through, like the range ring on the reflector sight.
