I'm going to set my tundra tired planes up to do this

I made the tweaks to the contact points of the PA-18A Super Cub and Brian Gladden's PA-22 Super Pacer. It works but needs some adjustments. I set the float point at the bottom of the aircraft wheels, so less than 1/2 way up the entire tire. I need to set it lower, like halfway between the bottom of the tire and the bottom of the wheel/rim.

I tried these planes out to see if the set up works...it does...but it takes a steady hand on the stick and an active hand on the throttle to keep the plane from mushing in too far into the water and getting a prop strike or losing too much speed and bellying into the water.

Obio, which Super Cub are you using and could you post your "skiing" mod?

Im using J.E. Narcizo's PA-18 package (comes with standard and tundra tired variants). Can be found on flightsim.com:

pa18_v3.zip

pa18fix.zip

pa18gau.zip

Very nice VC, incredible flight dynamics, looks good all around.

And as soon as I get the ski mod perfected for the Super Piper (and Brian Gladden's PA-22 Super Pacer), I will post the needed contact point tweaks.

I do that with the A2A Cub in FSX. Would love to see a Cub in Fs9 do it. Go for it Obio:icon29:

I am running into a problem....the airspeed needed to keep the plane up on the float points is greater than the airspeed needed for the plane to fly outright...the Super Cub has such a sweet STOL capability aready. Trying to use water to extend a runway at slower speeds finds the plane sinking into the water. It works....at higher speeds...but not at the lower speeds seen during a take off or landing run. I am trying to keep the float points about the size of the tires...maybe if I make the "floats" longer it will better support the plane at lower speeds...but then the water effects aren't going to match up with the tires.

So, would you all be able to live with wonky water effects in order to have a bush plane able to use water for take off and landing runs?

If I make the floats long enough to support the plane at lower speeds, the float points hit the ground and BOOM! If I keep the floats short enough not to trigger a crash, then they aren't large enough to support the plane at lower speeds on the water. Would love to know how A2A was able to set theirs up to work this way in FSX.

Nope...got distracted with painting AGAIN. Man I really do needs meds for my AADD LOL!

Water Skimming with Tundra Tires

Here are two tundra-tired aircraft and the numbers I have used for a very long time to produce some fun water skimming.

I can fly/water-skim easily clear down to 29 knots and less. Of course, you've still got to fly the airplane or she will nose over. Skim one wheel or both. Lots of fun! Landing and takeoffs using land/water or water/land work great. No sparks even with hard landings on hard surfaced runways.

Would it be possible to set up the "floater" contact points in the cfg as an optional model within the same plane?

Middle

No need to set up an additional model for the float/water skim tweak. The float points will not cause any problems when landing on terra firmam, unless the float point is below the contact point. What dognut has posted has the float point well above the contact point and will not cause any issues at all.
