I'm Not Really A Hornish Jr. Fan But....

Sam has enjoyed much success in the Indy Car Series, but like most Indy Car drivers, I think he had difficulty transitioning to stock car racing. He had success in the Nationwide/Xfinity Series the year that he drove for Penske. Perhaps if he had spent two or three years full-time in the Nationwide Series, then transitioned to the Sprint Cup Series it would have been a different story.
 
Sam was fantastic on ovals but average at best on the road courses. This why when the IRL remerged with CART, Sam's successes began to fade when the road courses came in - same thing happened to Dan Wheldon.
