I noticed something that has not surfaced during the beta testing, maybe because most the testers have altered FSX the same way I did. On some systems the shorelines (beaches) do not show up.

I think I have figured the missing shorelines out. Long ago I installed a free addon that modifies the terrain.cfg and adds new landclasses and texture definitions:

(Quote from Simviation)

FSX Modified Terrain Textures Config File. . Flight Simulator X terrain is defined in the terrain.cfg file. During testing, we have determined a certain number of modifications to this file that will correct some problems with the FS world and also provide more options for scenery designers. For example, in some places, water bodies display rocky areas - this file fixes that. Note: It does not smooth out the terrain - just colors it so it isn't so obviously flawed. Richard Ludowise, Luis Féliz-Tirado. 318K

The link for the package is:

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/sy...errain_cfg.zip

My design software grabbed the configuration and I thought it was default (lesson: always develop on a clean install). I used the FS9 shorelines, which are not scaleable in width by default. Above mentioned package enables the designer to change the width, which I did, but without the new terrain.cfg, you won't see them in FSX. Oh well.

So, if you can go without shorelines, it's fine, but if you want them, you must install the above mentioned package.

Thanks, and my apolopgies,
Mark

Dave, it didn't work for me either, but right-click, "save target as..." did work.

I don't understand how to install this. The readme file says to "read the detailed explanation that is included" but I haven't found any explantion.

There is terrain.cfg included, but I can't just replace mine with this one, can I? I will loose all the addon scenery that I've installed, like FSGlobal2008, right? I suppose I could go through it line by line and find the stuff that was add, and add it to my terrain.cfg, but dang, that file is over 6000 lines! Also there is a wsbg.jpg file included, but this file apparently doesn't replace an existing one, as I don't have it in my FSX installation currenty.

guys,

I was a little hot-blooded when I wrote this post, I would suggest to close this thread and remain in the sticky for the FSX Solomon scenery with this issue, because there is some important information about it. Please do not install this altered terrain.cfg without checking some vital information there.

There might be a simple workaround for the problem, but this has to be confirmed.

Thanks,
Mark
