OK, I'm getting into this game more and more - thank you for your help with my basic questions. Here are my impressions:
At last a game, which has as much immersion as the good old Flying Corps. I love the lot of aircraft (bombers would be nice, tho), the skins, the tons of weather options, and sceneries - those are super-nicely done! I'm fascinated by the cockpit experience. The Flight models are great, the cockpits as well, the sounds....My favorite part is when I land, throttle idle, mixture full, and my plane goes pfrrrr.........pfrrrr..pfrr...........pfrrrrr...
I really love the startup procedures as well!!!

On the other hand, I don't seem to do much damage to the enemy. Ican't kill the pilot, or rip off a wing - or is it my bad aiming?

Also, the AI doesn't seem very eager to get on my tail either, even if they're veteran or ace.

Anyway, thank you so much for all those who worked on this. It's a wonderful time machine!:applause:

PS: Can the MGs be refilled? at least when I land?

Here's a screenshot I made (and edited a bit in PS)

Hi Greg,
I assume your flying the current version Phase 2.

You'll be blown away with Phase 3. The AI has been tuned to a frightening degree and enemy attacks on your aircraft will be realistic. Wingmen no longer loiter around but actively join in, so you'll have more than one on your tail. Damage effects will provide you with anything from bits shot away from your target, to wisps of smoke and engine fires and of course the full flamers. WM has worked extensively to improve the terrain/weather etc and everything is historically based.

If you join a unit which actually fought a particular engagement, then you couldend up flying in that very engagement yourself.

Trust me, the wait for Phase 3 (not long now) will be worth it.

First: there is no blood in off, when any pilot catches a bullet he screams

Damage: Clip a hanger with your wingtip, you'll see damage

A P51 had 6X .50 Machine Guns = a full jacketed scalpel, cutting off wings, and what not. Your N17 has a single gun, shooting at canvas covered wood

With the EIII or the DH2, you have usable sights, the rest are instinct shooting, If you close too rock throwing distance before fireing, then fire in short bursts, 10 or 14 Tops. You have plenty of bullets

This is an attempt, to show how the War in the Air was
Landing Re-arming, and Re-fueling to get another crack at the enemy.
Is best saved for Hollywood

I would suggest, you read the STICKY OFF Tips & Cheats, many of your future questions will be answered :ernae:

Sandbagger, is it a Hurricane from 1 Squadron, Hawkinge? JX-B?
One of the squadron members, Tim Elkington (JX-O) posts sometimes to the a2a forums to help the developpement of BoB2 WoV. It's always a pleasure to hear anything from him.

P.S. and yes, i was able to land the Albatros in the last picture - first time i had the joystick wobbling when applying "left aileron" (wherever the control cable was) ... i did not even realize what had happened when the Camel swung by, only the Albatros suddenly behaved strange lol
It did not explode after landing, and was not even written off (or so i imagine).. was an interesting flight with the missing lower left wing.

Hey Catfish,
You would most likely not have been able to land that Albatros if it had been a DVa instead of a DV. The DV had control cables for the airlerons going out through the top wing whereas the DVa had them back in the lower wing (as per the DIII). Not sure whether this is modeled or not so could be coincidence. Great bit of flying anywho. Thanks for the post.

Hi Greg,
I believe it's Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 JX-B, Serial No: P3395 of No.1 Squadron, RAF. It was flown by Flt. Lt. Arthur Clowes.

However, it's me matted into the photo. It was done by one of the EAW members at the forum at SimHQ.

Hey, CATFISH !
Did you paint that Albatros, or is it a skin from the game?
Cause, if you did it, you should present it under thread: "Showing some skin", as it's a nice blend of green and yellow. Looks good, as far as I can see from the pics.
Cheers; Olham

Hello Olham44,

no, it is an original skin from the OFF team. I like to make pictures, present them as if i had anything to do with making skins or landscape, and show Off :icon_lol:

Catfish

Hello Aust3298,

thanks for the control cable explanation - yes, it is indeed a V, not a Va - man, is this really simulated in OFF ?
Maybe one of the OFF team doing the damage modeling could add some information ?
I remember havin lost only the outer tip of the lower wing of a DVa, and i was barely able to control it in flight, much worse than in the picture's plane. I managed somehow to also "land" this, flying almost sideways with full rudder and only aligning in the last second before touch down. However flaring out one of the tips struck the ground and the plane rolled to the left. I may have had a chance in real life, however in OFF it made a big "boom" :kilroy:

Thanks and greetings,
Catfish

Hi Catfish

Yes I believe I linked the cables to the appropriate places in the model and in the xdp.

Nice shot Catfish! Yes Olham, it's one of Paarma's skins - it's a DV wearing the squadron scheme for Ja 21s.

Catfish - It means Rise of Flight which is the new name for KOTS- Knights of the Sky, the much lauded, very distant new WW1 sim being hailed ( by some ) on Simhq forum.
If and when it comes I will buy it, but it will have a hard job to match Phase 3 I think
In fact, i look forward to it, because when it is out i think that after the comparison is made, as it will inevitably be made, I think a lot of folks will really realize what a classic sim this OFF is.

I agree totaly Fortiesboy, once RoF is released I too will probably buy it but it will probably be on the shelf and BHaH will be in the disk drive:jump:

If I said the game impressed me very much, I must admit that the campaign is totally ravishing!!! I got it working yesterday...the most immersive single pilot campaign I've ever seen. I'm currently reading Eddie Rickenbacker's book, and this campaign feels the same. I love the newsreels, the pilots dossiers, the movies, the fact that you can pick a mission, go to the airfield, the pilot walking away after a mission..

I had 3 sorties so far. The first 2 were quite uneventful. On the second one we saw a couple of Huns high above us, but we were unable to catch them. However, on the third one we encountered 4 Albatros fighters. They hit me before I could see them. A furious dogfight started. I managed to get on the tail of one of them, poured long bursts into his engine/cockpit, and he fell out of the sky uncontrollably. I wanted to follow him down to make sure he crashes, but some instinct told me to look behind. Just in time to see another Hun getting on my six. I threw my plane around and after a minute I could fire a good burst on him but then, I was out of ammo. Even though the mission was not completed, I was half way to the objective, but I decided to get the h*ll out of there. I remembered reading abuot the good climbing ability of the Nieuport, so I set my course for home climbing at full throttle. Is it what I was supposed to do, from a campaign point of view? I had 13 days of hospital afterwards, I must have had a bullet..

How many hours were the life expectancy of a WWI pilot? My primary goal is to survive.

Thanks!

I think you've got the point of OFF there. Good for you! A goal usually set when P2 came out was 17 hours, which was the average life expectency of aircrew in 1917. A lot of us have managed this in P2, some going up to 100 hours or more.

Let's see how we do against the relentless P3 AI.
