In love with the Osprey...

ColoKent

SOH-CM-2025
...I'll admit it: I've been bitten by the tilt-rotor bug. I recently bought Virtavia's rather oldish Osprey, and after the addition of a few add-ons (including the gauge add on that allows it to hover), I find that it is the best of both the helicopter and fixed wing world.

So here's the question: Does anyone know if there is an FSX native Osprey in development somewhere? A search of Nemeth's forum found that they apparently consider it "fixed wing", so it's at the bottom of their list.

This bird begs to be done in detail-- preferably in several variants (USMC, AF, Special Ops, and a fictional Coast Guard variant would be great too). And hopefully with a paintkit (looks like the Israelis are interested...among other nations).

It's a blast flying this tilt-rotor... :wiggle:

Didn't realize that...

That said, it would still be great to see another more recent version done that is more detailed with a better VC. Mind you, the AS one is great, but the VC and external model are 4-5 years old and can't compete with some of the newer techniques out there.

Again, great vehicle...

TiltRotor

Kent,

Take a look at Wilko Publishing's TiltRotor. I don't know how it compares to the Osprey, but I like it.

Well, it depends a bit what kind of extra's you are looking for.
If it's in the model, I can't help.

But if it's in the FDE behaviour, I can :)
I have completely revised my "VTOL addon" for this MV22, where the entire flightbehaviour with nacelles in other position then vertical (normal airplane mode) is now under my gauge control.
Giving a much more realistic flightbehaviour in conversion mode (= any position of the nacelles between fully horizontal and vertical). Eliminating those nasty transition effects caused by flaps drag/lift. Also included things like HOGE and groundeffect. And even contains a crash effect if you try to rotate the nacelles to horizontal when on the ground.

If you're interrested: I have a beta package available, which I'll gladly send you if you contact me (via normal Email, NOT the PM function of this forum; see my VTOL addon for my Email address).
Also, state which exact addon version (i.e. filename) of my VTOL gauge you are using now.

Only problem I have: I have created this beta for the old Alphasim package; so I have to re-package it for the Virtavia package, which takes some time.

Regards,
Rob Barendregt

I quite agree with you Kent, she is a ton of fun to fly!

Thanks Rob...your gauges make all the difference in fly-a-bility!

I didn't see a email in the file I have of the rcbvca11 . Where can I get it,I have the alphasim V22 for a long time.

Be careful if you install the gauge...

...it does allow you to hover, fly sideways and do other marvelous things, but it can also wipe out your MFDs if you are not careful (I'm going to have to delete the entire Virtavia package, then reinstall everything to stock again...then CAREFULLY look at the add-on gauge panel file to see what I wiped out on the original when I installed the add-on).

That said, it is still an AWESOME add-on for this bird. Just wish the external model, pilots, etc on the original visual model were more in line with current modeling standards...

Still...gotta love it!

Kent

Remember...

rcbarend older Version is for the ALPHASIM purchase before the Name Change

It still applies if you bought it from ALPHASIM ??? Correct

:salute:

Thank you Rob Barendregt for a super super great update to this aircraft . Its like flying a whole new aircraft .You are truly remarkable . Thank you so very much sir .:jump:

Whoa,

I would like me some of that :). The bird just doesn't seem to fly as well as I remebered in FS9 so maybe this new version would be a "fix" in FSX for me.

Thanks,
LouP

Hi Kent,

Sorry, but when I upload an addon, I cannot predict what will happen in the future.
Like Virtavia releasing almost the same aircraft as the Alphasim version, but with different pathnames and different gauge names.
That's why I always state in my README's to backup the original files that one potentially can overwrite. Like the aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg in the V22 package.
Furthermore, my README explicitely states that this addon is for the Alphasim V2.0 version; if you conclude that you can overwrite the panel.cfg of the Virtavia version with my panel.cfg intented for the Alphasim version, I cannot prevent or foresee that.
Moreover, you have had to do that manually, because the aircraft folder pathnames of my files are different then in your Virtavia version.

So I object to the statement that "my addon wipes out your MFD's ...."
It doesn't ...
What most probably happened, is that you manually overwrote the Virtavia panel.cfg with my Alphasim panel.cfg; unfortunately, Virtavia has renamed the main gauges file from ALPHA_V-22.cab into Virtavia_V-22.cab; hence all the gauges defined in my panel.cfg aren't found.
A simple copy/rename of the .cab file would have been sufficient.

Sorry I react this way, but I always put very much effort in trying to prevent that any of my addon's mess up the existing FS installation of a user. So I'm very picky to read even the remote suggestion that I'm to blame for this.

If your intention was not to blame me, but just neutrally state what you experianced: maybe some other reader might learn from your mistake. :)

That said :) :
Thanks for the compliment on the VTOL functionality.
But it still gets better and better....

Regards, Rob Barendregt

This skin is an addon. It was painted by Pierre Lheureux. I believe his repaints were done for FS9 but seem to work just fine in FSX. They can be found at AVSIM by searching V22 Osprey.

Rob...

...sorry I wasn't clearer in my post. I did not mean in any way to imply that your add-on "wiped out" the MFDs on purpose-- it didn't.

What DID wipe out the MFDs was my blind "accept" when asked if I wanted to completely replace the existing Aircraft.cfg and/or panel files with the ones included in the package. My only point was that I should have manually looked at both .cfg files and cut and pasted the changed areas myself, versus simply accepting the "replace" prompt from Windows. And yes (blush), I should have backed up the original files and folder before I went crazy installing-- and I didn't.

So again...I have no one to blame but myself for needing to go back and reinstall...sorry for any misunderstanding-- certainly wasn't trying to accuse you of anything...other than producing a great add-on!

Hi Kent,

No problem.... And thanks for the explanation !
Maybe I over-reacted a bit in my response :), but I get so many Emails for support for my addons, from people who refuse to ****, that I'm probaby too sensitive for such comment.:redf:
Even if it's not ment that way, as you explained.

Thanks,

Rob
