Installers that look for FS when running G3

I know this has been doubtlessly covered ad nauseum - but I searched and couldn't find it.

Certain programs will only install if they "FS9" is installed, when I have only a "FS1970" (Silverwings install) and a "FS1950" (GW3 install). So how do I coerce installers into thinking I have an FS9 install? I have tried creating a faux Programs/Microsoft Games/FS9 folder, but clearly it's looking for something more than just a folder.

I'm ALWAYS install to a temp, then manually move folder by folder, file by file, if needed, the items into their appropriate FS___ folder, so I know what's going on. So even if I have a fake install, I'd lose sight of what was being installed where.

What's the best way to handle this?

thanks,

am not entirely sure but i believe the installers look for the 'fs9.exe' icon, as thats the launch icon for FS itself...

depends on the plane, some need the Fs9.exe, others require a bit more or other files. IIRC the WoP/A2A stuff requires you to add some dummy sub-folders to your dummy folder in addition.

A trick I learned from The Old Hangar forums is to create in notepad an "empty" text file and name it "FS9.exe" It has no instructions, therefore nothing to execute even if FS tries to run it.

Place this "dummy" file into your root FS1970 and FS1950 folders. Any download looking for "FS9.exe" to execute will find it and will do its thing!

That should work for ya.
