A friend pointed out to me the fact that my Carenado C172N Skyhawk II has, in it's default installation, two (2) VOR2 gauges. I thought about this for a while and decided that I wanted one of each. A VOR1 and a VOR2. I contacted Carenado and they said that I could modify the gauges in my Carenado planes in any way I chose to. So I altered the panel cfg files and inserted the desired gauges from the C182Q in to the 172's panel. everything went swimmingly and the 182's VORs are now in the 172's panel (both 2D and VC). The question is this: having successfully put the new gauges in to the 172, will they operate properly and as intended. i.e., will the glideslope work properly when tuned in with the NAV2 radio and so on. Or are there other changes that I need to make to the aircraft to make this happen.

I'm relatively new at this type of modification as well as just beginning to learn VOR navigation. A little sage advice would be appreciated. :confused:

Unlike in the real world where there is a lot more to do in FS swapping out the gauge normally is enough.
The only thing you might want to double check is the [radios] section in the aircraft.cfg file.

The numbers you see there for each of the NAV radios tell the sim if the gauge is supposed to display GS or not.
Compare the default C-172 section to the one you are trying to configure. The default planes usually have textual explanations what each line item does exactly.

Gauges will not affect how the glide slope works in FS9.

Radios control that function.

If the FS9 version of the 172N is the same as the FSX version then no the glide slope will not work.

This is the Radio section. In order for the glide slope to work it must be set to Nav.1 = 1, (0 or 1 depending on radios), 1

or more simply

Nav.1 = 1, 0, 1

You can also make Nav 2 work with the glide slope by making the last digit a 1 but I rarely see this in the sim. Its just not necessary

[Radios]

// Radio Type = availiable, standby frequency, has glide slope

Audio.1 = 1
Com.1 = 1, 0
Com.2 = 1, 0
Nav.1 = 1, 0, 0
Nav.2 = 1, 0, 0
Adf.1 = 1
Transponder.1 = 1
Marker.1 = 0

When ever I modify radios I always add

Adf.2 = 1

In the event I want to add a second adf needle.

// Radio Type = availiable, standby frequency, has glide slope

That is exactly what I was talking about. But as you have it in this example you would not get GS information

Nav.1 = 1, 0, 0

To get GS information you need to edit the lines to read like this

Nav.1 = 1, 0, 1

If the radio head where you dial in the frequency has the capability to show a STBY frequency and a single push button flip-flop such as King 155s then this is the correct line

Nav.1 = 1, 1, 1

That is why I pointed out the fact that the default airplanes usually give you a bit of explanation for each line ...the stuff behind the // in the radio section quoted above.

thanks, guys, for the info. I think i've got a handle on this. Right now I'm comparing the default radios with the Carenado radios. With the information you've provided I will get this all straightened out. Thanks again.
