I loaded up one of my Carenado Cessna 185s to go for a hop and discovered that for some reason none the instruments are working. Hmmm. They are all there but they are frozen. The only things I have done to the model since original installation are to install Marcus’s 2D panel mod and to add a couple of repaints.

I loaded and flew a couple of other, different planes (both Carenado and others) and the instruments all worked just fine.

What might be a reason for this malfunction and how might I address the problem?

I suspect that the gauges are not showing.

The "frozen" gauges might be what are on the background bitmaps, both Marcus' 2d and the vc bitmaps have the gauges painted on them.

The "base" C185 pack and the "bush" pack use slightly different gauge names. If the config you installed is for a different pack than the one you own the gauges won't show.

Check your original panel config against Marcus' to eliminate this possibility.

Set a key command to "Avionics master switch on/off"

Load up the plane and start the engine by control-E

Press you key command and see if your gauges come to life.

You might also check pitot icing. I got rather frustrated with this model a few weeks ago when I was flying from RATR to PAPG (in Alaska) and couldn't read my altitude... After pausing the sim and frantically checking files, it began to make sense...

After I posted I remembered that I had modified the Aircraft Cfg to use the A2A lights. Although the instruments worked just fine after that, I reset the [Lights] section of the Aircraft Cfg back to the original values, to no affect.

Pfflyers I checked the Cfgs and there were/are no differences.

I made the key assignment change that you suggested, also without affect.

I’m pretty sure that pitot icing is not the culprit. The flight on which I noticed the “frozen” instruments was not in AK and the air temperature was well above freezing.

Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. I'll probably end up, though, uninstalling and reinstalling the entire aircraft, 2D Panel and paints. Then we’ll see what happens.
