Governments at all levels are scrounging for money any way and any where they can. The feds have always wanted to place taxes on the internet, but so far have always placed a temporary ban on a federal tax. Now that the economy has tanked I would not be surprised to see local, state, and federal taxes placed on internet service. Times are tough, pretty soon there will be a tax on breathing.

Yes, government at all levels have forgotten that their real discussion should be on revenue, not taxes.
They panic and forget that the two are different...

Once any level of government can leverage a tax against an entity... they will eventually go back to that well again and again. See cigarettes.
How many stories have we read about tax revenues being spent in other places of government?
No... to deal with those cybercriminals... we throw them in prison... if child molestors we castorate them... possibly shoot them. I think we would see crime go down.
Mark my words... if this passes in Louisiana... this will serve as legal precedence... other states will start passing an internet tax... once the states have this... then the feds will want to add on their own tax.
This money will go to creating new state and federal agencies... and more government employees... full of their entitlements... holidays for every thing that they can think of... perks... racial quotas.
Go check out your local Department of Motor Vehicle.... do you honestly think that government jobs attract the best and the brightest?!!?
...and these agencies will just grow. Hell... these gov't employees have their own lobbyists!

Simple economics... when revenues decrease.... you decrease your spending!! Somehow the idiots in Washington have forgotten that... all of them! No more spending... no more new programs.. no more junkets. Take a pay cut government employees... and for Pete's sake... no more growing government!

Fluid corporate loopholes can be altered with legislation--they're not written in stone...and exclusive corporate tax exemptions are only offered as incentives in special circumstances to industries or entities (give and take). But the broader base does pay a large share in gross dollars if not percentages...

Revenue is indeed generated by taxes, but those taxes are based on economy activity as a whole. The current issue with many state a local governments is that the economy has hit a bump meaning taxable transactions are down, which interrupts that source of revenue. Those governments will therefore be tempted to raise taxes in a desperate attempt to generate revenue, which will in fact have the opposite effect and reduce economic activity. By raising taxes, they will lose revenue. It sounds odd, but if you want to generate revenue...lower taxes (admittedly you can lower taxes TOO much, but I think you'd agree there's little risk of that).
As to my second point, my intent was to point out that corporate entities pass on costs of production to the consumer. ALL costs, taxes or otherwise. Hence, corporations do not pay taxes....they merely collect them.

What has been forgotten is that the US Government was created by we the people of the States.
The Government entities have no money of their own.
They only have your money and my money in the form of taxes to use as we the people see fit.
We the people have elected representatives who are charged with doing what we the people allow.
We the people worked the first four months of this tax year before earning one dime for ourselves.
Question: What will happen when we the people are forced to work the first six to eight months of each year to fulfill our tax burden?

What happened is we (or at least a significant percentage) the people became dependent upon the government for our daily needs. So this part of we the people simply elect or reelect those who promise to maintain and/or increase entitlement and social programs. The other part of we the people are lazy and either don't vote or vote for the incumbent because the incumbent is already in power and must know what he or she is doing.

The US has a "worldwide" tax rule on all its citizens. It regulates taxes not based on where you are, but by your citizenship only. This means that if a kid is born in the US, and moves to Europe the next day, and lives and makes a living his entire life in Europe, he still needs to pay US tax FOREVER as long as he is a US citizen. Crazy right? What makes it worse is that he is also paying European tax (which is justified of course)....thus he is subject to double taxation. The US wants your $$$ no matter where you are and where you earned it. So if you ever dream of living on an island somewhere and making a humble living, don't forget to pay Uncle Sam his share of your income...hehe
Take a guess at the only other country which has this law in common w/ the US....ready for it??? North Korea!
Every other country in the world (besides the US and North Korea) taxes you based on geographic location...which is common sense and logical.
