I had the chance to play around with the new IRIS F-14 for a little bit today at a friend's house. Let me tell ya, I was not impressed.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but I want a potential buyer (like I was before today) to have all the information and opinions they can get. That's fair, right?

I don't want to do a full review because I couldn't fly it for more than five minutes without wanting to quit.

1. The flight model is bad. I have no F-14 piloting experience, but I am a pilot and I know when things are rediculous. It seems to do everything wrong, especially thrust. I for one think ace combat simulates fighter physics better. I've had problems with IRIS flight physics before, and this seals the door on future purchases unless they build a B-1B.

2. The textures!! If some of you like them and think they're acceptable, then I'll back down on this one. It is my opinion that they are sub-par for an aircraft that costs this much, or any payware for that matter. Yes, there are incredible repaints out there, but the overall look of the VC and externals is rather basic.

Thank you. I know that sounds odd, but i'm not one to hav too thin of a skin, and i appreciate, all the critiques, not just the smiley happy fuzzy ones.
We have something in common. I've never flown an F-14 either, but one of my testers flys a pig for the Royal Australian Air Force, which is about as close as i could hope for. There WAS a couple of teary eyed senimental revues done by a couple of ex cat drivers ( or maybe it was only one and senility has finally won out ) but they ( he? ) seemed to enjoy it immensely, and it did become the defacto standard aircraft for the VUSN, of which there are several pilots involved, though i do not know them personally.
Still, feedback like yours is quite valuable to me as i'm always pushing to do better and better, and intent on making iris's planes the best flying planes in the world ( no small feat considering the extraordinary level of talent in this community ). SO in spite of everything exactly matching US navaal NATOPS specifications i feell i must apologize for having let you down. I can only promise, the next one will be better..
Warchild!

I did the A-model textures a couple of years ago so thanks for the valued input. I agree that they are sub-par, most of my work is. Let it all out on me, I can take it.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Well aren't you glad you didn't spend your hard earned money on our pile of sh&t then eh.. :D

Guess It's back to my sh&tfactory then for me to churn out more of the smelly brown stuff hoping that some poor unsuspecting schmuck will buy some of my wares!

After all, I exist to churn out subpar products for rediculously high prices and have done for many years... who would have thought that the flightsim community would continue to buy from us and support us with repeat business knowing what utter garbage we produce.

:faint:

(BTW for those who don't quite understand, my commentry above was significantly tongue in cheek! I am happy to receive constructive comments regarding any of our products and will aim to address any significant issues or inaccuracies where possible. I do not enjoy being told 'your product is ***** because I can't fly it.' Constructive comments normally are backed up with details on what is wrong, evidence to back up an opinion on why something is wrong and suggestions or information for us to use in order to address said problem.)

Thank you.

Warchild and Smudge, do you have any plans to ruin your F-15E and Mig 29 for FSX?

And please stop making crappy products that (almost) everybody likes!

Actually can you also include the smell of jet fuel as well, 'cos it just not real enough.

I'm with you on your summary - Im not over impressed with it either.

ive got to say that the textures are of the highest standards you can get in FSX, if they are displying badly on your PC you need to look into either your settings or reducing the quality of them...

The flight model i cannot state if its correct or not as i only have Glider experince and only at a good guess a F-14 ex pilot can say so...

Hey David should you ask them for their order numbers just to check...:caked:

If you half-baked modellers start delivering aerodynamic qualities that approximate the real thing, then I'm gonna stop buying this stuff. I went through this with the blow-up doll producers. They buckled under the pressure to start making dolls that talk and whine like a real woman. Now my doll never wants to "play". It's very upsetting to see the same trend happening here.

ROFLMFAO !

I haven't tried the F14, but I absolutly just love your PC9 and T6A. I still fly them on a regular basis.
So just ignore fools like that.
You guys make great add-on planes. Period. :gameon:

Oh well, I got me fiddeling with the Wolfie at least...:woot:(VF-1) ! It will be highly sub standard :typing:

Dag, can I put in a request for a VF-201 FSX repaint? Hangar won't seem complete without one. Pretty please? Okay....sugar on top??:jump:

For what it's worth, IRIS' Big Cat is the a/c that logs the most flight hours in my hangar.....Good Stuff !

I need to see what comes out of my current fiddelings first.... I need make sure I keep them all sub standard.
201, that's reserve isn't it? They have cool markings, me thinks...
Seriously... this is not a yea, neither a nay !

Whatever you can do will be appreciated, sir ! I've got some reference and decal sheets if that will help when/if you need them.

A couple things here:

You can't say anything negative around here without being blasted or being made fun of. I assumed that a few feathers would be ruffled and I was prepared for the return volley. I'm glad the IRIS guys can take my opinion in stride and have a laugh about it.

I'm sorry my post wasn't particularly constructive, but I don't know exactly what I think IRIS should do better because I don't know how to make aircraft for MSFS or tweak air files. (Before some genius goes that route) There's nothing wrong with not knowing how to do something and not liking someone else's results. Have you ever disliked a car? Most people have an auto model or manufacturer they hate and they probably can't design and build cars.

Anyway; this aircraft costs almost 40 dollars US. I was told by IRIS in another thread that detail comparable to the aerosoft F-16 was not to be expected. Why does it cost more than the aerosoft F-16? You can price it however you want, but you gotta expect frustration with this one. Chris Sykes: The textures are not horrible, I never said they were; but I'll bet noone from IRIS would even claim they were of the highest quality you can get for FSX. You can't be serious. Posts like that are why people with contrary points hide around here. I simply wanted to point out that in my opinion, the textures are not good enough for my 40 dollars.

We've come a long way when it comes to detail and quality in the last few years. My comment about the textures being sub-par was relative to the fact that IRIS wants 40 dollars for them in 2009. I have no doubt that two years ago these textures were better than most payware out there. There is nothing specifically wrong with them; I just don't think they can compete with other aircraft released recently in this aircraft's price range. Please dont take this as an overall grade on all of your work.
