Is anyone good here with Rwy12 Scenery?

Hey all,

I have been away from scenery for a bit. I redownloaded and am running Rwy12, but for some reason, the buildings I put in are all gray.

I heard on the forums at Rwy12, (which seem a little abandoned) that this is caused from a dual set of textures. I looked around and found none. I am creating the BGL into its own 'Addon Scenery/'my airport'/scenery folder. I tried copying textures into a texture folder in here, and that didnt work. I went the Rwy12 route with the BGL in the main Addon Scenery/scenery folder, that didnt work. I tried all ways I knew to get the textures to show on the buildings..

Anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

In Addon Scenery (or elseware) there shoud be only one folder: Static Objetcs Library installed in FS like any scenery. Under that there are scenery and texture folders which include the models and the textures. The Rwy12 program itself (and it's subfolders) can be anywhere and isn't declared in FS (naturally).

However the installing of Rwy12 is a little bit tricky so I'd advice to read again with care the with coming tutorial and FAQ files. My install didn't succeed at the first time either.

Yea, that's one of the reasons I went to Instant Scenery Bill. Rwy12 seemed a bit cumbersome in how their textures/scenery/etc had to be set up. Also, their scenery/texture packs got a bit out of hand as well, if you didn't get all of them, and there are quite a few and didn't get them installed correctly, then you got what you've run into.

Personal opinion: I was doing some really nice scenery enhancements using Instant Scenery and had accumulated a ton (almost literally) of scenery objects and textures. But I discovered that in order for anyone else to benefit from the work I was doing they also had to either download large packages or I had to zip up huge packages just to be sure everything was included. Most people want to download and install in a simple process, a few bgl's and some textures and that's it. I never released any of the airports I did because of that.

Any more, the ideal way is to do what Jdhaenens does. . .custom made buildings, textures and Afcads so that everything is compact and everyone sees the same things without having to download every scenery object package on the net.

Since the developer (Seev Kahn) died about five years ago, it's a wonder that the Rwy12 site is still active at all... :engel016:

Thanks guys,

Darn. I was looking forward to creating a wild airport and find it totally unable to be done. Rats....

Are there some photo real libraries available for Instant Scenery?

I had created the Deer Valley airport package years ago with Rwy12. Worked great back then. What I did was locate each and very texture for the airport, and the BGL(s) I made as well, and put them into their own folders. This then made it a 'stand alone' file package seperate from the Rwy12 components and libraries.

But, tracking around trying to find the hand full of textures from out of say 1000 or so texture sheets was a bit difficult. Thank the Lord for that graphics viewing program that DXTBmp came out with.

This file at Flightsim has about all the objects, EZOLIV33.ZIP.

Instant Scenery has a built in thumbnail maker which makes it fairly easy to find what you want. When you run the thumbnail maker it will also find objects from the default and addon scenery, like Pelston. It's well worth the $30.
