Just took out Rick Piper's lovely little Aeroprakt A22 Foxbat for a spin over Prince Edward County and noticed something odd; the airplane appears to be listing somewhat to port. Now I've been flying the A22 for awhile and never noticed the tilt before so I'm wondering if I've dinged the gear and if FS9 has some sort of cumulative damage function that I'm not aware of. Anybody?

Well you never know with Rick Piper, he has on occasion come up with interesting new features previously unheard of. But aside from the Aeroworx KA200 and FSD airplanes maintenance mode I am not aware of any damage modes that involve physical damage to the airplane.

Cheers

I don't spend time worrying about whether my planes are or aren't bent. I worry more about whether it's me that's bent. The planes can take care of themselves.

IIRC the Foxbat is very weight-sensitive.

If you fly solo you have to offload weight from the left side.
Alternatively, add a screaming lump in the right seat and it should level out.

It's not a contact point issue...
Turns out the default loadout involves one pilot...on the left side. Put an equal weight on the right side and it balances out. Otherwise be prepared for a lot of aileron trim (or just put a lot less gas in the left tank)
I made a couple small changes (commented parts are the original lines):
[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]
...
//station_load.0= "170, -0.27, -2.0, -1.3, Pilot"
station_load.0= "170, -0.27, -0.5, -1.3, Pilot"
//station_load.1= "170, -0.27, 2.0, -1.3, Passenger"
station_load.1= "170, -0.27, 0.5, -1.3, Passenger"
station_load.2= "20, 0.0, 0.0, -0.9, Luggage"
station_load.3= "4, 0.0, 0.0, -3.5, Wheelspats"
station_load.4= "5, 0.0, 0.0, 2.2, lightingKit"

Hope this helps. It still wants to drift leftwards with just me in it but at least it's more realistic.

While I'm thinking about it the sound file from FSNordic's Evektor Sportstar goes great with this plane. Our own Hinch had a really neat radio stack with autopilot too. it was at www.fs2004.co.uk but I don't think that site is around anymore. Might get more traction if you look up hinchap.zip by Matt Hinchcliffe at Avsim.com

Where can I find the Rick's Foxbat? I checked Flightsim.com but did not see it.

Did a Google search and found lots of reference to it, but all the links were broken links.

Thanks Drzook and srgalahad; the weight/loading issue hadn't even occurred to me. And you're right about the aileron trim, too.

Hey no problem ThinkingManNeil. The Foxbat is a fun little puddlejumper. Once I changed the station load locations closer to center it got a lot more fun to solo in. Glad it helped!

The d/l links for both versions are dead. I had this on an old external HD that went Tango Uniform on me. I'd like to have another copy for when I'm able to get back into the virtual skies.

Edit: Their main page says they were hacked. I'm guessing they'll get it back up when they can. I remember that this was built for Horizon and not available anywhere else.

I have the Foxbat on an external drive, so if required, PM me and I'll pass it on to you. Did have a few trips in the real thing a couple of years ago - a very interesting aeroplane indeed.

Cheers,

Even fairly large models are affected in flight by off centre passenger load - my Q6 I'm WIP has this (wanted) feature. I put it there for simulation of prop torque!

In real life, I had a Porche 914 that did not look right sitting empty. I set it up it up for me to be sitting in the drivers seat without a passenger for handling purposes. Amazing what an extra bod will do in the right seat.

this bird will reward you with a bent prop (and maybe other things I haven't yet discoverd) if you make a sloppy landing

Couple other options would be to bring the pilot weight closer to center, or reduce the main gear static compression value in the contact points. The latter might lead to unacceptable ground reaction though. Had the same tilt problem on a freeware C185 that I "fixed" just by adjusting the wheel height in the contact points. Otherwise it flies OK.
