Is there a major update forthcoming?

Time of release; unknown.

Will you have to buy the new version; yes.

Why do you have to buy the new version; because its an entirely new platform designed to run in 64 bit, with quad core computers (up to 4 computer cores or perhaps more) and using as much RAM as you can put in your machine. The platform had to be totally rewritten and at this min, it is still being rewritten, thus its not ready. Hopefully this year.

This will be like going from from a Volkswagen Beetle (1970's) to a Corvette, but with Prepar3D 1 to Prepar3D TURBO.

No more staring at jittery low frame rates....

Perhaps they should call it Prepar3D Quad or perhaps P3D-Q (quad core computer useable).

Yep it is like the old Microsoft FS days. FS2000 to 2002 to 2004 to FSX all new versions with new bits added and more aircraft.

Will happily pay for the new version as I run a 64 bit Windows 8 computer.

Hope so too NC but I think it will as P3D is basically the FSX engine pimped up.

Anyway why not ask them on the P3D forums.

I believe Wesley Bard gauranteed this already, that P3D would, for now, always support FSX models as well as FS9 models though the performance and functionalities of FS9 models are of course slightly limited in P3D just as they are in FSX; clouds visibility through props, etc.

10 years from now, that may change... ;)
