• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

It was a weather balloon .... unhunh ...

Actually I have no problem at all believing people saw a research balloon and thought it was an alien space ship. The NASA explanation sounds entirely reasonable to me.
 
I have seen those before. They are a bit odd. And when the sun is setting, they stay illuminated for quite a while as they are over the curvature of the Earth. At night, they can look like a street light up there.


Just comes down to 'how to tell the difference between UFO's, government test aircraft, balloons, and swamp gas.

Oddly enough, I watched this "ufo" all afternoon while delilvering my route yesterday. Tracked very slowly to the west (<50mph). First saw it around 1230 and when I got home @ 1630 I pulled out the binox and saw the balloon quite clearly. Lost it for a little while in the clouds, but it was there for literally 4 or 5 hours. Not sure how high this one was, but it was REALLY big. Too cool.
