Newly posted at FlightSim.com:

An entirely new design, bearing little resemblance to the original P.23, the Piaggio P.23R of 1936 had a pencil-shaped fuselage, a cantilever low-set wing with straight taper, and was powered by three 671kW Isotta Fraschini Asso XI R V-12 engines in sleek cowlings. Intended purely as a record-breaker, the P.23R had a crew of two seated side-by-side in individual cockpits, each with its own windscreen. Later modified by the installation of three 746kW Piaggio P.XI RC.40 radials, and with an enclosed canopy over each cockpit and revised main landing gear, the P.23R was used on 30 December 1938 to establish new world records, carrying a payload of 5000kg over distances of 1000km and 2000km at an average speed of 404km/h. Although the P.23R appeared in Allied wartime recognition manuals as a potential bomber, development of the type had already been abandoned in 1939.

FS2004 Piaggio P23/R. Two models, one with red texture for world record in 1939, the other with grey texture had last flight in 1942. Had a pencil-shaped fuselage, cantilever low-set wing with straight taper, powered by three 746 kW Piaggio P.XI RC.40 radials, in sleek cowlings. Crew of two seated side-by-side in individual cockpits with canopy over each cockpit. Model, texture, panel by F. Giuli. Gauges by other authors.

F. Giuli is certainly a prolific builder of Italian aircraft. I appreciate being able to view his designs from perspectives that are not available in photos. I was surprised by the width of the Piaggio's fuselage and high aspect ratio stabilizer. It's quite an impressive aircraft, and, I had to check out that separate cockpit arrangement. Thank you Sig. Giuli.

having spent some cockpit time in this aircraft (the 23R version) yesterday, comments:

There IS a VC, but it has a few issues:
-- see-through around some of the gauges showing scenery/sky. Apparently due to cutouts in the VC panel
-- viewpoint seems a bit too close to the panel (but obviously can be changed)

More annoying is the contact point problem I get when loading the a/c. "Pop and Drop" -- it bounces, then drops the tail through the earth for a crash... seems to settle in on the third recovery.

Brakes are strong (like F1 Ferrari) and likely too good, but didn't cause a nose-over.

Interesting operation and animation to the flaps. They are (likely quite accurate) a simple flap but with two segments - first two notches look/act 'normal' but last two are double-articulated.. quite interesting to watch!

On the other hand, it flies nicely. Smooth for the most part, no vices, but man, there is NO visibility to the opposite side from either cockpit! better be making all turns to your 'inside' :icon_lol:

houps... Indeed... on contact_point parameters, replace :
//static_pitch=12.864990
//static_cg_height=8.418745
by:
static_pitch= 7.875
static_cg_height=6.610

forcefeedback parameters are missing. If standard forcefeedback is too hard, add or replace:
[forcefeedback]
gear_bump_nose_magnitude = 500
gear_bump_nose_direction = 10000
gear_bump_nose_duration = 125000
gear_bump_left_magnitude = 1000
gear_bump_left_direction = 17500
gear_bump_left_duration = 125000
gear_bump_right_magnitude = 1000
gear_bump_right_direction = 300
gear_bump_right_duration = 125000
ground_bumps_magnitude1 = 750
ground_bumps_angle1 = 4900
ground_bumps_intercept1 = 5
ground_bumps_slope1 = 0.48
ground_bumps_magnitude2 = 450
ground_bumps_angle2 = 4100
ground_bumps_intercept2 = 0.075
ground_bumps_slope2 = 1
crash_magnitude1 = 2000
crash_direction1 = 1000
crash_magnitude2 = 2000
crash_direction2 = 9000
crash_period2 = 7500
crash_duration2 = 1200000
stick_shaker_magnitude = 1000
stick_shaker_direction = 0
stick_shaker_period = 111111

position on VC can be refined...

And other little things here and there....

But what a beautiful aircraft...!!

You can jack the seat up, shift+enter, and just see the top of the right piliot's head and say "Hey...How you doin' over there?" and you can see for right hand turns. Maybe the pilot on the left handles all the left hand turns and the right side pilot handles all the turns to the right.

The Comet sounds seem to go good with it somewhat.

It is a nice looking unique design though and flies very nice. When I see the front pics of this plane I keep thinking "a flying mole", is neat looking though. Those Italians really put a lot of peculiarity in the planes they designed, may be why they they were so great with their flavoring with their pastas.
