Ito-san's P5M Marlin

Fellas, I've been trying to figure out a couple of things regarding the FS9 Marlin, but so far no luck.

1. There is no 2-D panel and the VC is bare.
I have a panel folder and it contains the panel.cfg and the main panel BMP. All the default gauges are in FS as well as the ones supplied in Ito's Zip. SHFT+1 (or 2, 3, etc.) produces nothing.

2. I cannot get rid of the beaching gear.
I've tried all the usual keystroke combinations but they hang on for dear life. If they are part of the model, I would expect there would another model without them.

As far as #2, did you wait long enough? There is a time on these as if they are retracting then they just blink away. I'll have another look.

Hi,

Work well for me.

As usual I put all the gauges in the panel folder ! (the files .. not the folder !!)
I just modified the GPS ..

I cannot get rid of the beaching gear.

Retract dummy gear with the usual landing gear retract command (G)

You can reduce the time of extension-retraction of gears ..
Just use those contact points instead the originals ...
The modifs are in bold ...

FS2002/FS2004 Martin SP-5B Marlin. This was a twin engined piston powered flying boat entering service in 1951 and serving into late 1960s in service with the United States Navy for naval patrol. It also served in the U.S. Coast Guard and with the French Navy. 285 were produced overall. The Marlin was designed as a gull-winged aircraft to lift the engines and propellers high above the spray. Thanks for the reply, Gents.

I had installed a package of 14 repaints plus the borate bomber and simply selected the first one in the FS9 selection window, and did all my testing with that one.

After reading your postings I went back and --inexplicably-- selected a different repaint. Surprise, surprise! Full 2-D panel & VC and beaching gear responds to commands. Tested all the other paints and they all work as well.

Here is the interesting part for all FScybergeeks to ponder: that first repaint had a duplicate entry in the Variation window. The first entry (the one I had been using) exhibited the problems I posted, but the second entry worked perfectly.

Sometimes FS make you say WHAT??!!??

Well, it seems that there are very few real mysteries in God's world... regarding the "duplicate entry" in the FS Variation window [see my post above]. It turns out that I also have an AI conversion of Ito-san's P5M using the VP textures, and they also show up in the FS selection window.

Can you see where this is headed?

Yes, the a/c I selected for my flying was the AI version, the very one from which I had stripped the panel and REM'd the landing gear contact points. Mystery solved.

We've all done stuff like that. You add a texture folder without copying over other textures, forget to change the [fltsim_X] number sequence in the .cfg file, alias to a panel or sound file that you no longer have, etc. etc.
If you haven't mumbled "What have I done now???" to yourself a few times you haven't been in FS very long.

Thanks for the comforting words, TARPS...but I still feel a bit dumbkopf.
BTW, saw in the Ft. Huachuca Mohawk thread that you were in RF-8s; I have a cousin-in-law (is there such a thing?) who was in VFP-63 aboard the Bonnie Dick in '65.

I used to live about an hour's drive from the Fort. Ah, M O U N T A I N S and yes, dry heat. I really miss both in flat, steamy Florida.

1965 was before my time in VFP-63, I was there 1968-71 and a second tour 1978-81. Your cuz and I may know some of the same pilots and maintenance troops, it was a good squadron and a lot of guys extended their tours to make additional cruises. Many pilots who were in the squadron as junior officers came back later as department heads and detachment OinC's.
