Ito's Bell X-22A

I installed this very unique aircraft earlier today. While not of my preferred type of aircraft, it is a fun plane to fly around in. Two things struck me as needing attention: Sound pack and flight dynamics.

So, I am working on a sound pack for the X-22A. I am working with the turboprop sound pack that comes with the now freeware Alphasim T-34C Turbo Mentor. The prop sounds just weren't cutting it for the X-22A, so I am working to come up with something totally unique to capture what may or may not sound like 3-bladed ducted props. I have never heard a ducted prop, so I am just working toward something totally unique and cool sounding.

Flight dynamics, to be honest, are not my strong suit. But I did get lucky enough with a few tweaks here and there to remove the tendency for the plane to move along the runway at idle and to allow the plane to have a faster sink rate. Not sure how these tweaks have thrown off the maximum speed of the plane, but it sure is much nicer to land in a hoverish mode.

Will continue tweaking the prop sounds and get the sound pack and modified aircraft config uploaded in the next couple of days.

I had conniptions trying to make this fly a little better and ended up redoing all the contact points, and can't say I improved its flying much. I tried desperately to have its visible thrust orientation come close to actual obsrved movement. I was settling at least for a slow response with flap input so it wouldn't bounce and jerk with each click. If you could show what you did cfg-wise I could add it to mine and see what happens. The few videos I found were fun to watch. It threw up scads of dust.

But a new sound would be cool. I have to imagine it might work a bit in reverse. High RPM sounds for VTOL then a throttle back as the airfoils come into play in horizontal flight.

If I have time I'll load up the original to compare.
