James...Night fires

James here is the first of the small "night Fires". There will also be a much larger one with huge flames. This shot was taken from 5,000 ft. The orange reflected light and glow has not been added yet. The fires have a lot of different and varied smoke patterns to them.

They are all visible at a range of 12000.

I'am not James (but very much interested in the Nightbombing-campaign!). It's simply fantastic!

Thank you!

Adding the fire glow and orange reflected light. Notice the color of the searchlight beams as they pass thru the firelight.

Here the night_fire facility has been placed on top of a refinery to simulate incendiary markers from prior PFF strike. The glow from the fires really lights up any structures nearby.

You will notice the glow reflection on the botom of the day Mossie paint scheme, no wonder they painted the bottom of the night attack aircraft flat black.

Hi Steve,

As I said befote, it's really impressive!

Most of the british bombers of AvH have a black underside. They also had a PFF Mosquito. They removed it some months ago (I presume to give it a new flightmodel). Now that they have put themselves on another track I hope they put the old version on their website again.

Looking good Steve.:applause: I think for hi alt (15K + ft.). The glow will be more the point than individual fires. At that height the fires would be very 'smeared' and the general glow effect more noticeable, if you get what I mean. Would this not also mean less effect on the fps?? Perhaps also the smoke would be be more like a cloud effect???

Fires

Looking at actual footage and still pictures the fires were viewed as spots varying in intensity and were fairly wide spread. Second, the fires have to be bright enough to illuminate the planes and create silhouettes. Smoke, is like James said a cloud effect would seem most appropriate especially from 15k.

Ted this first facility is the small one, see note on internal forum. This one is for our Wed MP mission. The large facility will be called "Firestorm". The video you have above is the firestorm that developed when several large fires met during the raid on Dresden and created one massive fire with tornado force winds.

The large facility may not make the 1.2 cutoff date of 3/15. One thing is for sure though, only the guys with top end big time PC power wil be able to fly that mission due to FPS hit. We will probaly use the clouds from the current smoke drum and increase them in size. The fire sizes will be absolutely huge and will be several hundred feet wide and tall. They don't look like much from 20,000 ft but on the ground they were massive and deadly.

Steve, you are doing a great job and the problem with these kind of effects will always involve a trade of with fps and computer power. In the end in some respect we have to introduce effects which do involve hi end computers (remember that was the initial problem when CFS3 was introduced) and those with lower end comps will unfortunately have to do without the latest effects; maybe even me unless I upgrade again!

I agree with Ted that from the normal bombing height, the individual fires "spots varying in intensity and were fairly wide spread' In other words at thatheight it was less of a 'fire' effect than a light/illumation effect, if you see what I mean. Having only seen b&w pics I Imagine though that they were also more white than red; as you no doubt know, the hotter the fire the less red it was as more wavelengths got going at the higher temps. (Don't want to do the physics too much or I weill think I am back at school work.:wiggle:)

It would be interesting for following up daytime missions by the 8th or others to have facilties/spawns showing sort of thick vertical 'clouds', as IIRC often subsequent daylight ops were in the presence of the still smoking remains of the previous/night/or even day missions.
